Taxpayers are apparently buying welfare recipients booze and cigarettes for the road — at times a very exotic road.
A Watchdog.org analysis of a Colorado Department of Human Services welfare ATM withdrawals database shows that $3.8 million was withdrawn by Colorado welfare recipients outside the state in the past two years. There were withdrawals at out-of-state liquor stores and tobacco outlets, as well as vacation destinations like Hawaii, Las Vegas and even the Virgin Islands.

Flame away. I believe that people on public assistance should not live as well as those who work for a living and earn what they have. I don’t think people on public assistance should be going on vacation. Going on vacations and having nice things in life should be based on people working for and having earned such benefit. If they want to go on vacation, pay for it themselves with their own money, not public assistance benefits.
No surprise when charity is politically connected and motivated. The bigger thieves are not the recipients but the sellers who know that all that government guaranteed charity money will end up in their pockets.
For one ounce charity you get one pound of corruption. What a deal!

Information about who is getting welfare should be at least as available as information about who owns firearms.
If it were up to me, this information would be made available on-line, in real time. Who, where, how much.
Some days I feel like giving up. I’m pretty sure we have qualified for various programs for the past 13 years, but out of principle haven’t applied. We have lived carefully, but the past 5 years have been difficult. Rising grocery costs, health care costs (2 kids have chronic conditions requiring meds-no generic versions available), and fuel costs have been killing us.
One of our boys has been out of a med for about a month but we haven’t had the money to get it. My glasses are broken and too old to get fixed so I keep them in the car and sort of hold them on my face to drive. I read something like this and I want to cry and just give in. My husband works 60-80 hours per week at his 1 full time and 1 part time job. He is looking at finding another part time job just to try to get ahead while I am homeschooling our children. He works so hard just to pay the bills and there are so many people just taking and abusing the system. Why bother holding on to principle?

We have DESTROYED the incentive to work. Back in the day, when people still feared God, the wages of sin really were death. And that kept people in line. Sloth was not rewarded, as it is now. It was punished with the literal threat of starvation or death from exposure.
Once the state broke that connection, millions lost any incentive to work.
