Rape survivor: Facebook panders to gays over real names, banned rape victim
The Washington Examiner ^ | October 4, 2014 | Joe Newby

"...I was victimized all over again," she said. "I had my ID set as Tina Si at the time. Luckily I went in and changed my name to Tina IsSavedByGrace and blocked them and it stopped."

But her problems weren't over. A short time later, Facebook demanded she provide photo identification to prove she is a real person. Their goal, she added, was to silence her.

"They didn't care that I was a rape victim," she said..."

In answer this thread, Facebook applies a double-standard based on ideology and social values:

"Facebook apologizes to LGBT community, clarifies names policy" http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3210223/posts

I don’t do F/B but I know several people who do. Several have two identities, using a fake name for different things. For example, a friend of mine works in a private security job. She uses a fake name to investigate sex crimes on behalf of victims’ parents. Bottom line - F/B is full of fake identities/personalities and unless you are SURE who you are talking with, you should assume they are make believe, and possibly dangerous.

Why ask just a person for their real name, when it is loaded with plenty of names that I doubt are even real. I also have the basic belief that I don’t care what a person’s sex behavior is, they are capable and should be just as guilty of the same attrocities I am capable of committing.

You can also use the Internet guides on how to terminate Facebook if you have an account.

No good comes of Facebook. People need to get over worrying about what is or isn’t on it.

My 60yr old friend fell in love with a guy she met on FB.
The guy told her he was a contractor that lived in SoCal ,but was working in London.
I right away said :fishy story, you are going to be hit up for money for a lost passport ,as he cannot get back home.
She talked about getting married all within a span of 2wks.
I said he was some Nigerian sitting in a basement cracking up at your love for him.
Well, she gave him her number and he called.Guess what?
His accent was so thick she couldn’t understand him.
Yeah ,he was African.
She didn’t learn. A week later she was contacted by a guy in Miami that was wealthy contractor etc....She called to tell me she wasn’t going to have to work any more blah, blah ,blah .
After a month, same scenario as above, but he told her she was a fool and he was 19 yrs old and in Nigeria having a laugh at her expense.
I told her to get off FB, you’re too damn gullible.

I was only on it for perhaps four years before terminating my account. Life was busy, and I simply didn’t have the time to be up to date on it, like plenty of my peers were. I eventually terminated it, with the names of those whom I was sure I would contact or bother with talking to in the near future. All the other info was previously backed up, as the termination of the account deletes photos, videos, blog posts, that you uploaded. I just couldn’t find it immensely worthwhile, plus a lot of information like photos was e-mailed to me anyways, so why bother. Then there were the warnings back shortly after facebook was even started about stalkers, bitter ex-spouses, etc. Some may say that Facebook is a great way to send a message out for all to see, but there are simply other ways to do it. Even before it became an issue with this transgender rapist in the Women’s restroom, it was already warned about as dangerous for people who had say, bitter, abusive, ex-spouses or exboyfriends/exgirlfriends, or who had been victims of crime anyways. People can see actual pictures of you to see who you are even if you don’t use your real name, in fact, Facebook is worse than the NSA because it allows for information to be found for potentially malicious purposes by people with minimal computer technical knowledge or experience.

First of all, this thread is about how an international social media site that has over 1 billion users is using double-standards in how users identify themselves based upon ideology and social norms. Facebook is also very strict about criticism of Islam, but has no such strictures concerning criticizing or blaspheming Christianity.

But to entertain your point -

Your friend was a victim of a Romance Scam, which is more likely going to be on a dating site, rather than Facebook. They target people who are middle-aged, lonely and seem like they might have money. You can advise people to stay off of dating sites and social media — and blame them if they get scammed. But these sites can be of use, but you have to be canny that there are scammers out there:
http://www.romancescam.com/

Forums such as Facebook are in the end what you put into it and whether what you expect is realistic. It is not a substitute for actual face-to-face interaction and should not be used as such. It is not a place to determine your self-worth based upon the assessment of others you may not have ever met.

It is, however, a place wherein you can connect with people with similar interests and to re-connect with those from the past. One thing nice about social media is if someone annoys you, it is possible to eliminate that person from your life with a few clicks. You cannot do that on Free Republic w/o getting Admin/Mods involved.

And for me, social media is a platform to post my inflammatory rhetoric.

I work in IT and have run one of the largest IT security consulting groups in the US for a major corporation. I hold advanced industry certifications in netwworking and security. I have been trained how to hack and understand system vulnerabilities, and have run penetration tests against government agencies and banking firms.

I have NEVER had, nor will ever have a FB, twitter or LinkedIn account. My goal is to be as anonymous as possible.

My goal is to get my material exposure. We all use the Internet in different ways.

Those of you, not say you are one of them, who are typing away with your trembling, liver-spotted hands saying that you don’t waste your time with Facebook, so you don’t care are missing the point. A social media site that has tremendous influence over a significant portion of the world’s population is exhibiting ideological bias in an attempt to limit freedom of expression.

That is concerning whether you actually use it or not.

look facebook.. if anyone can pick the gender du jour they want to call themselves. . They sure as hell should be able to pick the name they want to go by.

Or do you make the trans-gender go by there legal first gender name?

“My militant gay friends have unfriended me. That’s why i stay on it.”

I lost a lot of friends when I posted pics of myself eating at a Chick-fil-A on Aug. 1, 2012 in support of CEO Dan Cathy saying he supported the traditional family based on his Christian values.

One of them asked me, “do you hate gays?”

“No, I support freedom of expression.” Then she and others unfriended me.

I enjoy deviling my leftist friends on FB every now and then.

I will admit, it does work for some people but I feel that people I don’t know all too well got to discuss with me better via my blog. On facebook, any attention or discussion I get comes drom people that I know very well or interact with in ways other than facebook itself. I will say, to each their own, however. The vast majority of so called friends I have don’t bother chatting or having a message to me. That’s the part I didn’t mind. And the people who did, well, most of them I talk to in other ways anyways. Just in my case, I had a hard time understanding the point of it.

Unfriending me is how they show they are more tolerant than me.
