PLEASE!!!

Everyone!

This mass hysteria over this disease is not warranted.

I took care of a friend, who contracted Vancomyacin resistiant MRSA.

She went through 3 treatments. Two by pic line and one by oral meds.

MRSA will absolutely kill you the same as Ebola.

I took care of her every day during this time and the MRSA ate off the ball of her femur.

Tough luck to be sure but, she needed a hip replacement anyway.

She then went on to live another 5 years taking 6-8 trips across the United States and Mexico each year and was quite active.

I and others who took care of her were careful and practiced extraordinary hygiene.

During this time we changed her bed pan using gloves and carefully washed the bowl with both bleach and alcohol.

We cleaned the toilet that we threw her waste down the same way.

We didn't share food during this time because she could transmit.

I did hug her a lot and allowed her to kiss me on the cheek, which I would always wash out of her sight.

After 1 year, she was given the clear and resumed sharing food and goofing off, as we had done 20 years before that.

MRSA and Ebola are transmitted the same way.

For those of you who think I'm being cavalier, I think I have bit more experience on this than 99.9% of the rest of you.

That is not a statement of arrogance but, of experience, pure and simple.

I'm sure many of you are familiar with MRSA but, few of you have 1st hand experience with it, as I did.

There are numerous Freepers here who will attest to my experience and they were a great resource during a time that was unbelievably taxing on me emotionally and physically.

Again, MRSA and Ebola are spread exactly the same way and both can kill you.

Stop the insanity...

Yes that’s why they wear the level 4 suits when handling it in a lab.

The national epidemic of Political Stupidity, often referred to as ‘being or becoming a Democrat’ is not only destroying the nation, it’s contributing substantially, too, to the destruction of the entire planet.

Yeah but there is a difference; We have a POTUS is doing his utmost to bring Ebola to the US and spread it.

Did a quick check and couldn’t find anything, but I’ll bet $5.00 that Liise-Anne Pirofski, MD is a Democrat—She’s sure ugly enough.

And people do not follow appropriate hygiene for most things...have you seen the vomit cleanup method they used in the parking lot at the Dallas apartments? And don’t get me started on some healthcare people. It’s not the viruses...it’s the people dealing with them.

But...I like my hysteria. I revel in it. Don't take it away from me (sobbing)...

MRSA is very ugly stuff. I have a friend who is through it (we hope) more or less whole, thank God, and I mean that. The flu - the real one - has been with us for a very long time now and what we most have to fear there is, I think, complacency. AIDS should have been a wakeup call for an entire community and unbelievably, it wasn't. Not sure there's much more to be done about that but Lord knows we've tried.

There are a lot of things that will kill you and they are here now, WHY in the world would we want to import something else if we could prevent it.

MRSA exposure is far less likely to develop into full-blown disease. Or at least hope so, because a whopping huge portion of Europeans already have it.

My daughter has had MRSA more than once. Her husband has not had it. Her children have not had it. No one else in our household has had it. Ebola is not the same though I confess none of our family has had Ebola.

I had c-diff and was in isolation at the hospital. I watched the nurses practice poor sanitation and not wash after leaving my room. C-diff is highly contagious and kills, but Ebola kills more.

None of those 3 compare.

Influenza spreads faster than Ebola, but there are vaccines available. Odds of dying from the flu is 0.5/100,000 people.

MRSA is hard to catch. Mostly it affects elderly and people in hospitals. If you get it, it'll probably be a skin infection and can be treated. If you get it in the form of sepsis, you're odds of survival is still 85%. There were 19,000 deaths from MRSA in the U.S. in 2011, so your odds of dying from MRSA is 5/100,000. And that ratio has been falling since 2006.

You might have experience with MRSA with one elderly person, but I'm guessing you have zero experience with EBOLA. (Nor do I). Nowhere in the world has MRSA spread at the rates we are seeing it spread in Africa. To suggest that Ebola and MRSA spread exactly the same way and are equally contagious is irresponsible and dangerous. Stop it!!! You will get people killed!!!

And your last example is a venereal disease that you are unlikely to get unless you engage in risky sexual behavior. In 2010 it caused 900 deaths. There are effective treatments to cure it, unlike Ebola.

Of the countries that have had major outbreaks, none are yet in control of it. Only Nigeria and Senegal managed to stop their outbreaks when cases were <=20.

“MRSA will absolutely kill you the same as Ebola. “

I had MRSA. I know all about it from personal experience.

MRSA isn’t in the same league as Ebola. You don’t get MRSA from just being around someone. And it doesn’t make your insides turn to bloody mush. Just one Ebola infected person can quickly spread it to ten others. And Ebola *might* become airborne, no one knows. MRSA won’t.

MRSA is bad, but it isn’t anything like this killer.

I believe this is something other than Ebola anyway.

Ebola was discovered in central Africa in 1976. It was determined to be air born, and 100% fatal. there were approx. 6 villages completely wiped out in the initial discovery.

I was on active duty and clearly remember the news of the day.
