Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Tom Frieden vowed to "stop Ebola in its tracks" in the United States while acknowledging that the Dallas outbreak could become larger than one case.
"I'm not going to promise that we can stop this at just one case, but I can tell you we have the advantage because the right steps are being taken," Frieden wrote late Thursday in an op-ed for CNN.
"The fact is that CDC has been preparing for this day, working around the clock with local and state health departments I am therefore confident we will stop Ebola in its tracks here in the United States."
Frieden is seeking to maintain public calm about the Dallas Ebola case while urging continued help for the epidemic in West Africa.
The Obama administration is facing a barrage of questions about the virus and its effort to respond, including why officials will not ban travel from the three countries most affected. "Even if we tried to close the border, it wouldn't work," Frieden said Friday on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."
"People have a right to return, people transiting through could come in, and it would backfire because by isolating these countries will make it harder to help them."
Frieden also said the U.S. would be at risk until the epidemic in West Africa is contained.
"We all want and wish we would have something where we're at zero risk," he said. But beating Ebola in Africa is "the only way we'll do that."

Why U.S. can stop Ebola in its tracks
By Tom Frieden

Political correctness is already on display in this case, and it will end up killing us.
So another lie from the CDC. Widen does NOT equal stopping in its tracks.
PC Bureaucrat!
Where is LtGen Russel Honore, of Katrina fame (”Don’t get stuck on stupid.”), when we need him?
Well I feel much better now about the whole thing. :-)
Apparently it wasnt stopped in its tracks. The train is heading this way, and Snidely Whiplash has us tied to the track.
“Right of return” - for aid workers. Not for Liberians that just want to escape to Dallas.
I love the way they put this.
Here’s how I read their message:
“You should have known this would happen.”
“There’s nothing anyone can do about it.”
“It’s not our fault.”
Yesterday, the number of people having direct/indirect contact with Dallas Patient Zero had rised to around 100.
Of those, 5 were children who had gone to school several days after their initial contact.
Additionally, the apartment complex where they resided is near several other apartment complexes. Was there ever any interactivity among any at those complexes?
The crew cleaning up the vomit were not wearing hazmat protection. Did they decontaminate the area?
In a couple of weeks, we may have a better idea, if additional cases develop from those in the general area.
Yep. In the twisted mind of a liberal, it is better to have death and suffering on a massive scale here than it is to be called “racist” for banning travelers from ebola countries entry into the US.
Name one step that was done correctly.
NBC cameraman diagnosed, was wearing a suit but he ‘thinks some body fluids splashed on him’.

If we want to beat ebola in Africa, wouldn’t at least an immediate embargo on entry to the US from the ebola countries be a minimum first step? This should have been done months ago.
Tom Frieden is a veteran and proponent of many big government (local and Federal) intrusions into our healthcare system. Certainly he’s a spokesidiot for Obama: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Frieden
Just shoot me.
We are so far ahead on this compared to other cultures stuck in Paleo World.
There will not be an epidemic nor a pandemic.
And all these other “suspected” cases are staph infections.
I went to Mexico during the H1N1 and the day I arrived the government of Mexico shut down all government services, museums and attractions.
What was the result?
A total loss of revenues when they killed 80% of tourism for this fraud.
So, has this jerk done anything to limit travel from the infected African countries, as a number of other countries have done?
Of course not. He hasn’t done ANYTHING to prevent the spread of Ebola into this country. And being an Obama appointee, we can be pretty certain that he never will.
I note that his previous experience seems to be working as Mayor Bloomberg’s nanny state enforcer in New York City, where he fought against tobacco, sugar, salt, and politically incorrect foods.
