Patient in isolation in Honolulu hospital, officials say Ebola a possibility

The Department of Health has confirmed a patient is currently in isolation and undergoing testing in a Honolulu area hospital.

Officials told KHON2 Ebola is a possibility, however the patient has yet to be specifically tested for the virus.

Two major red flags are if the patient has a fever and if he or she has been to West Africa in the past 21 days, officials said. They would not confirm which factors, if any, apply to the patient.

“We’ve asked the hospitals to tell us about is anyone with a travel history and anyone with a fever, and when those things come together, we’ve asked them to be very careful and in an abundance of caution while you’re working, for whatever else might be going on, also make sure you isolate against Ebola, just in case,” said Dr. Melissa Viray, deputy state epidemiologist.

Officials will not provide any details about the patient or symptoms, but confirms the department is working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The patient is currently being kept in a regular room and anyone who goes in or out must wear protective gear, officials said.

The department said it was notified Wednesday morning and is still in the early stages of investigation. The public should not be concerned at this point, officials said.

“It’s very possible that they do… have Ebola,” Dr. Viray said. “I think it’s also more likely that they have another condition that presents with similar symptoms.”

Dr. Viray said the patient could have a number of illnesses including Ebola, flu, malaria and typhoid.

The game of Ebola Roulette continues...

*click* spin *click* spin *click* spin…BANG!

Eeeee-bolllll-aaaaaa ping!

Bring Out Your Dead

We’re gonna need

a bigger cart!

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

Time to discuss the “I” word.

And for you naysayers, Clinton was a million years ago in political time.

I just recently dealt with an issue with the Hawaii Dept of Health, and let me tell you their competence is not a strong point.
But , it is all good, because the most important thing that was paramount to Hawaii voters was that they elected a person from Hawaii to be President.
No matter that this person split from Hawaii as soon as he could to embrace the culture of Chicago, and only visits Hawaii in a multimillion dollar condo on Kailua beach ( my hometown) away from the peons.
So, a little taste of Ebola might give those Hawaii voters a real look at the idiot they voted for, even if this person may ultimately test negative for Ebola.

I also think that their website has crashed, I have a subscription and cannot get on it. Too many worried rat Hawaii voters reading the site. I hope they cannot sleep tonight.

Whoops, actually not a condo, my typo. It is a large house surrounded by a swimming pool that wraps around about 2 other houses on the beach. Beautiful, and 3 blocks from my childhood house.

Zero is dead set to kill aviation. First by scattering MANPADS all over the Middle East, now letting Ebola vectors go wherever they please.

Hawaiians (like Italians (me)) and Liberians are into big food gatherings and eating off each other’s plates and drinking out of everyones’ glasses.

And the loooong flight to HI from anywhere guarantee tipsy fliers making lots of restroom trips.
