Steve Scalise Is Your New House Majority Whip. Here’s Why He Can Rule Forever.

What's the opposite of a "political earthquake"? If the primary defeat of Rep. Eric Cantor drained D.C.'s supply of dramatic analogies, the snap leadership election surprised almost no one. Rep. Kevin McCarthy, the party's occasionally competent whip, easily took Cantor's old job after a furtive conservative challenge from Rep. Raul Labrador. And Rep. Steve Scalise, a Louisiana conservative who had been leading the Republican Study Committee, nabbed McCarthy's job in one ballot.

(SNIP)

Why? Simple: There are three states where party primaries have been replaced by jungle primaries, followed by runoffs between the top two finishers. After John Boehner, the rest of the GOP's leadership hails from these states. McCarthy is from California; Scalise is from Louisiana; Cathy McMorris Rodgers is from Washington. In none of these states can a conservative sneak into a low-turnout primary and defeat an incumbent with 5 percent or 6 percent turnout.

The notion that the Republicans in Congress are conservative or have a lot of committed conservatives within their ranks is a joke.

My member (Scott Perry-R 4TH District of Pennsylvania) makes speeches critical of Obama all the time and he even votes the right way with dozens of other members, even a majority at times on bad ideas that Boehner advances through with Democrat support.

Congressman Perry puts on a good act, saying he couldn’t oppose Boehner for Speaker because Pelosi would have won.

But in the summer of 2013 Perry had John Boehner in for a fundraiser in my district. He did it in the summer to keep it quiet, but it happened.

An active third party in conservative regions would get their attention like it did in Canada 20 years ago.

Since Boehner goes with the Dems anyway on our national debt, higher taxes and cutting militaryy pensions (that’s the current budget plan he voted for) why does it matter if Dems win because of a third party?

So, how’d you like Nancy Pelosi as Speaker? Better or worse than Boehner?

Same difference. We’re screwed either way!

The question is, “would you rather the enemy be behind enemy lines, or in your general’s tent?”

At least with her there would be straightforward liberalism and the accompanying corruption.

When Canadians started the Reform Party and broke the old Progressive Conservative Party apart in the 1990’s, the Liberal Party of Canada ruled and lived up to its name, but it also spewed out corruption that led to its eventual downfall.
