Cuomo Says He’s Reaching Out To ‘Rockefeller Republicans’

As his campaign released a new TV ad featuring an endorsement from, literally, a Rockefeller Republican, Gov. Andrew Cuomo told reporters on Wednesday he plans to reach out to moderates in the GOP.

“I’m reaching out to Democrats, but I’m going to campaign the way I govern,” Cuomo said. “I’m also reaching out to moderate Republicans because my politics, my governing philosophy was fiscally responsible and socially progressive. That is what the overwhelming majority of New Yorkers are.”

Cuomo has worked well with Republicans in Albany over the last four years, winning measures on socially liberal provisions such as same-sex marriage and gun control, while being able to limit spending and create a cap on local property tax increases.

“When it comes to fiscal issues, you look at the way we’ve managed this state, we managed it a way that any Republican would be proud,” he said.

The governor, meanwhile, has sought to inoculate himself against charges Democrats spend and tax too much.

“That is 70 percent of New Yorkers,” Cuomo said. “So, Mr. Rockefeller’s support as a Republican is very important to me.”

Rockefeller has also been a generous campaign contributor for Cuomo, and has attended “Republicans For Cuomo” events.

And he pointedly took a swipe at Republican candidate Rob Astorino’s own record in Westchester County.

To moderate republicans, a "big tent" means no conservatives. Conservatives ARE NOT to be elected! If they get nominated, moderates will support the democrat.

But conservatives are told to vote for the "R" NO MATTER WHAT!!! It doesn't apply to the Rockefellers, though, or John Warner, who endorsed the democrat in VA, or Richard Lugar who endorsed the democrat in GA, or Former Governor Milliken, who endorsed the democrat in MI, or the moderate republicans who are supporting the democrats in KS.

Just more evidence of the one-street.

Anyone who supports Cuomo should not be allowed to call themselves a republican of any kind.

If he could just get them to switch parties, he would be doing us a big favor.

Good luck Cuomo.

This is the liberals’ idea of a “level playing field”. In the process of leveling, all opposition is bulldozed into submission, and any deviant opinions are to be buried and kept out of sight.

There are certain flaws in this kind of “social engineering”. One of which may be, that certain opinions may be silenced, but they are by no means extinguished, and being buried, they tend to smolder until they burst forth with a great deal of energy.

What century does Cuomo think this is?

He’s out of date and out of touch.

Cuomo can recruit Karl Rove.

They’re ideological brothers. Big Government, Open Borders, Protect Incumbents, Defeat Conservatism.

You know.

The Rockefellers donated the land where the UN building now stands.

Nelson Rockefeller left this vale of tears under circumstances highly embarrassing to his wife & staff. At least there doesn’t appear to be any surviving dynasty unlike the hateful Kennedys.

He was GOP-E long before there was a Tea Party.

Anyway, Andrew Cuomo is Mussolini without the charm, IMO.

they are gone—Died with Nelson Rockefeller—Now they are RINO Republicans and support Mitt Romney and Donald Trump (but he’s a bit too conservative for many of them).

The RINO word is way overused. It seems to be hurled as an insult on this forum more than as a valid description.

In the 1968 election the MSM framed the issue as will the Republicans go with the "electable" Rockefeller or the dastardly conservative Richard Nixon. Sound familiar?

The party went with Nixon and still won, to the deep disappointment of the MSM.

A Rockefeller Republican is a dead Republican who will fraudulently vote for Cuomo.
