Some Kennesaw State University students have committed to wearing head scarves for 24 hours in a show of support for Muslim women who wear a hijab, or head covering.
Caitlin Syfrett, a senior at KSU majoring in anthropology, said she wants to see if she gets any questioning looks or mean-spirited glances from people while she wears a head scarf, even though she’s not Muslim.
“I’m wearing it as a sign of solidarity because there are women who do this every day, and they’re judged,” Syfrett said Tuesday, when the 24-hour period began. “I want to see how prevalent the misconceptions are.”
Syfrett said she hopes to talk to others about the prejudice she sees Muslim women endure in the United States and other countries for exhibiting their religion. She said she wants to break stereotypes.
Tuesday’s event, “The Many Faces of the Hijab,” is part of KSU’s yearlong study of the Arabian Peninsula.

That’s funny. Because when I go to the mall I see lots of girls wearing a head scarf....with skin tight jeans and blouses on. Seems to be more of a fashion statement than a morality statement.

Back in the 50’s, and into the late 60’s, my mother would never leave the house without a head covering............she wore scarves which protected her hairdo and most women wore similar...................

Maybe if we circulate this amongst ourselves, American and Canadian citizens will find the backbone to start speaking and voicing the same truths.
The article says that a Muslim woman who spoke to the class said that wearing the hijab is a woman’s choice, but we all know that is not true. There have been Muslim “honor” killings in Western countries of wives or daughters who were deemed to have become too Westernized.

Or for that matter, women of certain conservative Christian beliefs covering their heads in public.
What are they wearing in support of Muslim clirterectomy,feminine hygiene pads?
Caitlin Syfrett it’s okay to wear the head scarf blah blah blah...but you don’t have to blow $hit up or commit work place violence, okay. You don’t have to take it ALL the way you know.

And will they wear it when they are at the pool in their bikini?
