Sad to say, the smooth talking lawyer has a slight edge. I wish Joni would have taken the gloves off a little more often and sucker-punched him.
Who won the Debate????? I think Joni Ernst, who is leading Braley in polls by 6 points, actually won the Debate because Braley was not able to deal any knock-out blows to her. Here is one Post-Debate Report:

Slight edge, in which way? From reports I’ve seen, the debate was considered mostly a draw, with a maybe slight edge to Ernst.
And with Ernst leading in polls that’s not a bad thing. From the little I watched in snippets, Ernst came off as a bit nervous but projected authenticity. Whereas Braley lived up to his weasel trial lawyer image - distract, deflect and obfuscate. Even the moderators seemed annoyed by his refusal to answer questions directly.
Another way to look at debates is who lived up to, or cast doubts on, the caricatures portrayed in negative ads.
I don’t think Braley helped himself at all. He came off exactly like he has been cast - a slick, flip flopping trial lawyer who won’t talk straight. Ernst, meanwhile, appeared appeared nothing like the caricature the Democrats have tried to create - an extreme radical tool of the Koch brothers.
The night goes to Ernst.

I agree with your comments. I guess I was a little nervous about the Debate; I was hoping Joni would deliver a knock-out punch. But, as you know, I said: “slight edge” because he seemed to “sucker punch” Joni a few times when she did not respond. (Possibly because she was following the Rules of the Debate with more grace than her scumbag, ambulance chasing opponent.) For instance: He denied threatening to “sue anybody” over the chicken in the yard incident. Kinda made her look like she was lying, and with that, he got the last word. But, she out scored him on “class”.
She did good. I don’t think she lost any ground in her present 6 point lead in the polls and Braley did NOT gain any ground. She was much more gracious than he. He comes across as a phony a**hole.
