Dozens of hikers were stranded Saturday on the slopes of an erupting Japanese volcano that has reportedly killed one person and left 30 more seriously injured.

Ash, rocks and steam continued to spew from Mount Ontake more than nine hours after it sprang violently to life as around 250 people were trying to scale its peak.

With all of the small earthquakes in CA, now this eruption, I suspect that something much bigger is coming.....like a giant eruption somewhere else or a huge earthquake.

I still remember seeing(on video) the one roaring down Mt. Pinatubo in the Phillipines. That was one NASTY cloud hurtling down the mountain.

The meteorological agency forecast further eruptions, warning that volcanic debris may settle within four kilometres (2.5 miles) of the peak.

One would have thought this would have been forecast. Volcanoes usually start rumbling and bubbling and burping up smoke several days prior to an eruption. Then again, you pay your money, you take your chances.
