US Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Saturday called Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbass accusations of an Israel genocide against the Palestinians slanderous and urged him to speak out against Hamas rather than Israel.
Israel’s action in Gaza was the just self-defense of a sovereign nation against relentless attacks by radical Islamic terrorists,” Cruz said in a statement. The United States would and should do the same under those circumstances.
In Abbass address to the UN General Assembly on Friday, he demanded an end to the occupation, accused Israel of waging a war of genocide in Gaza and asserted that Palestinians faced a future in a most abhorrent form of apartheid under Israeli rule.
Rather than bandying baseless accusations against Israel in the United Nations, the Palestinian Authority would do better to expose Hamas’s vicious use of civilians as human shields, which is an actual war crime, he added.
The US State Department has also attacked Abbas’s remarks at the UN, saying they were offensive and undermined peace efforts. President Abbass speech today included offensive characterizations that were deeply disappointing and which we reject, said State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki.
Such provocative statements are counterproductive and undermine efforts to create a positive atmosphere and restore trust between the parties, she added.
At a Friday gathering of evangelical conservatives, Cruz — who is frequently named as a potential Republican contender for the presidency in 2016 — said he sought to defend American values, which included standing for Israel. He has frequently spoken in support and defense of the Jewish state over the past few months and during Operation Protective Edge in the Gaza Strip.

Have you heard anything from YOUR GOP senator lately except asking for campaign contributions? Cornyn, the sleeping TX senator, has his re-election in the bag and is basically on vacation. After all, nothing is happening in the world .
And may one add,
“Now and again, the tree of liberty must be nourished with the blood of patriots and tyrants...it is its natural manure.”
Thomas Jefferson
IMHO
Actual words stated: "I like Cruz, but hes sometimes too much on the attack and can occasionally misjudge the occasion to bring out the rhetorical big guns."
Because he demonstrates backbone, and speaks with confidence he is TOO MUCH...REALLY ! As if there is something wrong with speaking boldly and carrying a big stick, no more speaking softly, we have had entirely too much of that, it does not work in our current political environment, and in-fact it never did, as far as I can tell.
This time around we need to rally around one candidate, not like 2012 where we seen every conservative candidate systematically destroyed from within because they lacked perfection, and the last man standing was many times worse than any one of them.
So we have a little over two years till 2016, that's not a lot of time to play, we already know Cruz fits the bill for what we need in a president, now is the time for conservatives, to start supporting him despite any imperfections one might perceive, lets not repeat 2012...IMO!
Some will say, he has not said he is running yet, I think (some) have not been listening.
