TOKYO (AP) A volcano erupted in central Japan on Saturday, catching mountain climbers by surprise and seriously injuring at least one person.
With a sound likened to thunder, Mt. Ontake spewed large white plumes high into the sky, sending people fleeing and covering surrounding areas in ash.
Several people were injured, including one who was unconscious, according to Japanese media reports.

Isn’t that what the Japanese say about America these days ?
To: John W
I don’t speak or understand Japanese, but am surprised at least one of them is not saying, “we better get the f out of here.”

One thing is for sure - I would not be slowing down to video or take pics!
Those hikers are very lucky the eruption was not slightly worse: They’d be dead.

The blast was coming on too fast. They couldn’t get away quickly enough. I’m sure they were looking for a low gully or something to hide behind.

For sure! The clouds look to be moving at a slow pace but it overtook them in no time! You can hear the hacking coughs as they hunkered down.

Interesting.
What a refreshing change from American cell phone videos packed with OMGs and other unmanly shouts.

And they always seem to be in the middle of large-scale terrorist attacks.

Explain the mechanism, please.

IT's not my theory, but it's like taking a cracked ball filled mostly with liquid and applying a little pressure over a large side of it, as it rotates.
Something's gotta' give.

Some people believe solar activity can cause earthquakes and volcano eruptions, due to the changes in surface pressure the Sun's CMEs put on our Earth's "MAGNETOSPHERE".
They believe this pressure can push all the way down to the earth's surface, and, over a large area, half the surface of the globe, might cause the magma and the earth's continental plates to move, bow, and/or bend;
thus causing earthquakes and, in some cases, volcano eruptions.
Check this out.
