Poland launches major military exercise with international allies

Poland launched on Wednesday the largest ever exercise of the Polish Armed Forces, "Anaconda", involving 12,500 soldiers, including 750 from NATO members, in response to security concerns over situation in neighboring Ukraine.

This year's "Anaconda" includes soldiers from the Czech Republic, Estonia, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Hungary, Britain, Canada and, for the first time in history, the United States – namely, the U.S. Army’s 18th Military Police Brigade.

Even Obama can’t screw this one up. We are bound by treaty obligations to come to the defense of any NATO partner. That does not mean a few bombing runs by a plane at 20,000 feet up.

I suspect that Poland would be a bit tougher nut to crack than Ukraine. Their military has good equipment, are well trained and have loooong memories.

Obama will ignore Poland. But the rest of the region won’t. I predict Putin will move on Gdansk but will fail.
