You are correct. The tendency toward gout can be inherited.
Consuming a mass quantity of fresh green beans from our garden can set off an attack in my case...

“Why not send Moochelle instead...???”

Sounds like a win/win to me.

Uhmmm....I think the gout started in his soul and has gone down leg from there.

Well, I guess there’s still hope for more serious complications. : )

I haven’t had a gout flare-up in quite a while. I have learned what triggers it for me.

My dad used to get it and my brother and I would tease him about his limping. I learned its not good to tease your parents about hereditary maladies.

When I do have a flare-up, it hurts. A lot.

Yep. I get it occasionally in my feet and ankles, and it’s like walking with glass shards in your joints. Agonizing.

And therein hangs a tale ...

One of the quickest reliefs for acute gout is colchicine. Colchicine is an ancient remedy derived from saffron flower. It was used as far back as Egyptian times.

But in 2009, our ever-vigilant FDA cut a sweetheart deal with URL Pharma to give the latter exclusive rights to market it. The price jumped from less than 10 cents a tablet to almost $5. A medicine that had proven itself over thousands of years had failed to satisfy some bureaucrat’s idea of validation.

The FDA was paid $45 million for the “application fee” by URL Pharma. Draw your own conclusions.

When ever 'gout' is mentioned I always think of the daily cartoon strip of the newspaper we had when I was a youth - "Bringing Up Father" with Maggie and Jiggs.
Jiggs was always pictured with his ankle wrapped-up with an gout attack and Maggie was always haranguing him about his "high living.'
