Some Missouri cops picked a controversial way to accessorize their uniforms: "I am Darren Wilson" bracelets.
Missouri Highway Patrol Capt. Ron Johnson confirmed that some officers wore the Wilson-supporting bracelets while on duty in Ferguson but he did not name the individuals or which agencies they represented.
Darren Wilson is the Ferguson police officer who shot and killed 18-year-old Michael Brown on Aug. 9. The killing inspired violent protests in the St. Louis suburb, which eventually quieted into weeks of peaceful demonstrations.
But anger peaked again Tuesday when a fire destroyed a makeshift memorial for Michael Brown. Police said vigil candles sparked the blaze, but mourners asserted someone intentionally set it on fire, inspiring 200 protesters to take to the streets.
Watchdog MediaBlackoutUSA claimed the "I am Darren Wilson" bracelets made their first appearance on the arms of cops patrolling the streets during those protests and posted a photo of the provocative accessory on its Instagram page
Johnson did not confirm where the bracelets were worn.
"I think that that was not a statement of law enforcement, that wearing of that was an individual statement," he said at a press conference Wednesday.
He continued: "When we wear this uniform, we understand that we've got a professional standard that we adhere to."
Johnson promised to speak with the officers in question about police standards, St. Louis' Fox 2 reported.
Witnesses said Brown was surrendering to Wilson when he was shot and killed.

Witnesses have said that they have seen Bigfoot and Elvis. Frankly, I find them more credible than the "witnesses" in Ferguson.
No wonder the Obama and his but-boy Holder wanted him
to take over. He’s a fellow liberal traveler.
