Boko Haram lists prisoners in possible schoolgirl swap

Boko Haram has released a list of 19 militants it wants the Nigerian government to free from prison in return for the schoolgirls that the group kidnapped last April.

The list, seen by The Telegraph, includes a former spokesman for the group, Abu Qaqa, and a spiritual advisor, Mallam Bashir. But it consists mainly of mid-level field commanders rather than senior leaders - a sign, sources say, that the group is now trying to offer "realistic" terms that it believes the Nigerian government will be tempted to accept.

The Islamist group has also drawn up a list of schoolgirls that it is willing to hand over in exchange - ten of them Christians, and ten of them Muslims.

Both lists have been handed to officials from International Committee of the Red Cross, who, as The Telegraph revealed last week, have been asked to act as independent mediators between the militants and the government in any prisoner swap.

Boko Haram, which wants to establish a hardline caliphate across Nigeria, is believed to be holding more than 220 schoolgirls hostage after kidnapping them from a school in the north-eastern town of Chibok last April.

Let's see... April to September... 5 months... yeah everybody is probably getting cranky and worried.

I certainly would assume that the 20 girls they want to trade are pregnant. The Boko Haram lunatics don't want infants around, and they probably realize that killing the infants would not make the girls any easier to deal with.
