As with all labels intended not to offend that which is labeled,
the new label eventually comes to be understood as meaning that which is labeled,
at which point the new “unoffensive” label becomes offensive and must be changed.
Long story short -> “teens” or “teenagers” soon will be deemed “racist”.
A local town has decided to rename its ‘Alternative School’ to ‘The Academy’ because of the bad connotation the former had. I cannot believe that a roomful of educated humans couldn’t think even one step ahead.
