I was not among the group of distinguished newspaper columnists who dined with President Barack Obama at the White House the other night.
I thought it strange to be left out, since I have been around covering politics longer -- and for more newspapers -- than most of the people who attended the event.
Maybe the president never got around to reading my column or, more to the point, maybe he did. Or it could be that, although I have been called many things, distinguished is not one of them.
Still, it is not as though I've been a stranger at the White House, having in the past visited and/or interviewed Presidents Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton
