America really needs to stop buying everything imported from China.

We really need to make stuff right here, in America.

Who is going to bring back American jobs?

Will it be the GOP?

He says you can't unify everyone's thoughts, but you can unify everyone through a common goal.

That's an old idea alright... as good today as it was back then...

Jack Ma has scrupulously avoided politics and advises people in business to do the same, which is probably why the Beijing dictatorship has allowed him to pursue his goals. Apparently, they do not see him as a threat to their hold on power.

Jack Ma is not a bad guy, but he is definitely a well-connected insider. The author still thinks the Chinese government is Communist in philosophy, rather than a fascist/corporatist entity that uses Communism here and there as a tactic to keep a billion poor farmers quiet.

I'm not getting such a positive feeling from this Alibaba IPO, personally. First of all, it's a Caymans corporation, not actually Alibaba. Secondly, it's B2B and extremely loose, you can apparently find any number of counterfeit brands on there, so intellectual property is a problem as with China as a whole. The UI leaves much to be desired, as does the accuracy and consistency of the information, unit of measure, cost structure, etc. Also, how much trade do you see on this platform going into China, which is the apparent motivation for all the exuberant dollars being thrown at this company? I've been aware of them for close to a decade, and I've never perceived it as a vehicle for anything but expediting Chinese trade with the rest of the world. I would not be surprised at all to see, in a few years' time, that it's not quite what it's been built up to be. Guardedness would be a more appropriate response than exuberance.

I like a self made guy worth $25 billion.

Jack Ma has done something right. You can be successful if you give people what they want.

China is a nation of entrepreneurs. They create and they become very wealthy.
