His "rules" are pretty basic, just observations of stuff that has been going on for millenia.

Agree. The bigger shame is that conservatives haven’t studied the same common sense principles that Alinsky taught the Left and become equally adept at applying them in politics.
I agree that Alinsky’s tactics pre-date him on some level. He gets credit because he was the first to put them down in book form. He was also the first to cite examples of how the tactics work and he pointed out how and why they failed when they failed. It’s a very interesting book in that regard.
