I've been parking in the City by the Bay for DECADES.

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER.
I know where to go and where where not to go.
I know when to go and when not to go.

True story.

When the movie SON OF GOD came out I went to see it, TWICE. I parked not terribly far away and I THOUGHT I had read all the signs.

Well, the second time I saw the movie I COULD NOT BEAR to watch the Crucifixion again, so I left.
When I got to my car there was a tow truck there READY to put on the chains. YIKES. I told them: I'm here!!!
So the chains went back into the tow truck.

The parking ticket was $100.00. It was on a main thoroughfare and it was almost 5:00 P.M.
To retrieve my car from the AutoPokey I would have had to pay another $500.00.

The good Lord punished me with the $100.00 ticket but saved me from the $500.00 tow.

So much for THINKING that I had read all the signs. I must have read what I wanted to.

So much for THINKING that I had read all the signs.

Years ago in NYC, my wife and I were taking in a show in the theater district. We were touristas, so we had a car. We parked VERY carefully, after reading all the signs. We got out, and walked down the block. A Good Samaritan -- yes, they do exist, even in NYC -- stopped us and said we'd be towed. He pointed to the far end of the block, to our rear, where a couple of tow trucks were hooking up cars, with a couple more tow trucks waiting to descend. And as soon as a car was towed, another motorist, who had been carefully reading the signs, slid into the spot.

I no longer remember how the scam worked, but the signage was deliberately misleading. Must've been a real profit center for the city.
