GOP turns 'amnesty' around on Dems

After largely avoiding immigration as a wedge issue in competitive races, Republicans are suddenly hitting Democrats for supporting “amnesty.”

President Obama’s decision earlier this month to delay any executive action on immigration until after the midterms has given national Republicans a new way to tie Democrats to the unpopular president.

However, some GOP strategists worry the approach risks further alienating the party from Hispanic voters they need in 2016 to win the White House.

“Short term it’s an entirely different electoral landscape,” said Ford O’Connell, a Republican strategist who advised Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) 2008 presidential bid. “What looks good today might not look good tomorrow.”

GOP ads on immigration have hit Democratic Sens. Jeanne Shaheen (N.H.), Mark Pryor (Ark.) and Mary Landrieu (La.), who all voted for the Senate’s bipartisan reform bill last year. They have also targeted Kentucky Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes and Georgia Democrat Michelle Nunn, who also support a path to citizenship for people in the country illegally.

The ads are sprinkled with images of President Obama, linking him to the Democratic candidates, and they have the potential to move the needle for the GOP as they look to capture six seats for Senate control.

In a sign of vulnerable Democrats’ nervousness on the issue, Landrieu, Shaheen and Pryor all voted with Republicans last week on a procedural maneuver backed by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) that was a stepping stone to a vote to block Obama from taking immigration executive action.

Obama lost all of these states, except New Hampshire, in 2012. But that was in a presidential election —the midterm electorate is more conservative and white, and the president’s poll numbers have dropped there, along with Shaheen’s.

Geez, look at the 3rd and 4th paragraphs! It's a winning issue and the Republican Establishment is wringing its hands with worry! Unbelievable (but totally believable)!

Scott Brown has jumped up 20 points and is in the lead on the Amnesty issue alone! He's certainly not nervous about it...because he wants to win! He wants power! That's how it's done!

It was a winning issue for the Republicans in 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012. But because of idiots like this one, the GOP decided not to run on it. And America is suffering because of it.

The candidate who has the guts to run on the 'Reverse the Magnet' platform would roll to a Reagan over Mondale size landslide.

Ah, the old "some say" journalism dodge for injecting opinion into an article.

The GOP is not a single 1 headed entity. A couple of anti amnesty ads from Terri Land in Michigan.

Why does no one ON EITHER SIDE remember that Reagan gave every hispanic here amnesty in the 80’s!!!!!

And what did it get the Republican party? 71% of Hispanics voted for Obama!

How can this be? We have been told that if only the Republican party were to embrace amnesty Hispanics would be eternally grateful and vote for them in perpetuity!

But it seems instead like it only lasts until the next election, until they put out their hand again and say ... yeah.. you gave me amnesty... but what have you done for me lately!

OH FOR F SAKE!!!

Pandering to Hispanics WILL NOT GET ONE SINGLE VOTE FOR THE REPUBLICANS.

Any “Hispanic” (invented race) who will fall for something so stupid and pandering will always vote for free stuff from their democrat overseers.

What will happen is the GOP will be slaughtered because who’s going to vote for them? Why vote for them? They stand with the democrats against American citizens.

You are saying what I said all day yesterday. Scott Brown has jumped in the polls over a NH political icon because he has hit his opponent, and the Dems, on Amnesty. Yesterday on FOX Report, Doug Schoen and Pat Caddell said that President Obominable has already said he is going to give amnesty to illegals after the Mid-term Elections, and not one peep out of the Republican candidates. But, when all of your candidates are hand-picked by the wimpy, GOP Establishment, what do you expect?

Because I mentioned Scott Brown being the only candidate hitting this issue and rising in the polls when others are sinking in the polls, I was called a Liberal and a troll.

Well, as you probably know, I live in MA, and am no fan of Scott Brown. I blanked my ballot for him in 2012 and am glad that never have to be faced with voting for him again. That being said, I hope he beats Shaheen in NH. I’ve seen his ads and they’re really good. He knows how to win. And is determined to win. I hear him in interviews on the radio all the time and he’s still a wishy-washy moderate. But he’s grabbed the Amnesty issue and is running with it, hopefully to victory.

When oh when is the GOP going to find out that aside from the Cubans Hispanics don’t vote Republican? The GOP needs to be wooing the 3 million plus republicans who sat home in Nov 2012 and they would be winning a lot more elections.

HEARD THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE: Immigration reform has become so toxic among Democrats, that Senators demanded hot sauce bottles be removed from Senate cafeteria tables so as not be reminded that they stupidly voted for reform.

Nobody knows who---but some wise-guy put a cucaracha in Sen Schumer's bean soup.

And when Schumer ordered a taco, the stale taco shell was willfully broken in half---carne assade spiced w/ habanero peppers spilled all over Schumer's pants.

Schumer had to seek emergency medical treatment for painful crotch burn.

Democrats are facing a daunting task---b/c DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz has made some huge boo-boos. Long- simmering doubts about D/W/S reached a peak after she criticized the White House’s handling of the border crisis.

HEARD THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE: disgruntled Dummycrats say these were the crack-brained ideas of D/W/S:

(1) D/W/S advised Mexico President to go to California and declare it "another Mexico." (RESULT: a tsunami of 2014 voter polls indicate massive voter revulsion for Democrats);

(2) D/W/S advised Obama to meet w/ Third World leaders; (RESULT: villages emptied--contagion, vermin and disease infect the USA);

(3) D/W/S advised Obama to put out the global welcome mat. (RESULT: slit-eyes jidahists from 144 countries pour over the border);

(4) D/W/S advised Obama to delay E/O amnesty to help nervous Democrats in tight Senate races. (RESULT: Obama's Numero Uno on Mexican drug cartel hit list).

I refute every thing the talking heads say about amnesty with one statement.....
If all that were true, California would be a Republican stronghold and rolling in the cash.

“In a sign of vulnerable Democrats’ nervousness on the issue”

How can that be? Schumer, McCain, Graham, Rove, the Chamber of Corruption, et al. have repeatedly and dogmatically told us that if the Republicrats don’t embrace amnesty like the Dimicans, the Republicrats will be finished as a party.

So how is it the Dims can be nervous standing with JugEars on amnesty?

"“I think the politics are with us now,” the operative added. “But I think that it will be fleeting, and I think the politics will whip back around to being problematic for us.”

This is ONLY a statement regarding campaign contributions from the Chamber of Commerce. That's where most of the GOP gets most of their money.

But everyone in the GOP elect KNOWS it's otherwise a winning issue and that's why they're using it now.

It's a winning issue now and it'll be a winning issue in 2016 and 2020 and 2024 etc.

It is likely to INCREASE as a winning issue as time progresses.

A SMART GOP would endeavor to cultivate the perception that they are the "white" party.
