Strong fundraising by Democrats and their alliesincluding a formidable super PAC run by people close to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is helping the party remain competitive in Senate races where many other factors favor Republican candidates.
Senate Majority PAC, for example, has spent $8 million in North Carolina, where Sen. Kay Hagan, who entered the race as one of the Democrats' most endangered incumbents, has led in almost every recent poll. In Michigan, Senate Majority PAC has spent $3.5 million on behalf of Democratic Senate candidate Gary Peters, who is running against Republican Terri Lynn Land. Recent polls show Mr. Peters leading his opponent by several percentage points. Super PACs have spent about $4 million on Ms. Land's behalf.
Democrats say it is their message, more than their money, that is making a difference with voters. "The ultimate reason for all of this is the vision Democrats have versus the vision Republicans have," said Ty Matsdorf, campaigns director for Senate Majority PAC.
Nonpartisan experts say the surge in Democratic spending is surprising. "In competitive races, you expect to see both sides evenly matching one another," said Erika Franklin Fowler, who co-wrote the Wesleyan analysis.
"We've got the momentum. But if we've learned anything as a party from the last few elections, it's that liberal special interests have mountains of cashand they are organized," said Kevin Sheridan, a GOP campaign strategist and former Republican National Committee aide.
"We have put every one of the Democratic candidates in a position to win," Mr. Matsdorf said. "What we have been able to do is prevent the Americans for Prosperity of the world from swooping into these elections, swamping them with money and drowning the Democrats out."

First truth I’ve heard out of a Democrat’s mouth in a long time. While I hate their message, at least they have one. As long as the Pubbie candidates run away from the Conservative message and keep straddling the fence on every issue, they will continue to lose elections. Some of us said, here on FR, months ago. Don’t count on the GOP winning control of the Senate. What the hell they gonna do if they do win control of the Senate? NOTHING!!!
No message. No vision. No plan.
Except democrats bad, Harry Reid evil.
And that is not enough.
Republicans have a golden opportunity to take control of the Senate. But they just lie around like dead fish.
Wonder how much the Republican party is being paid to lose this election.

No. The GOPe has a message: TEA Party members and other conservatives NOT WELCOME.
That and the GOPe.
The real nightmare here is that not only should the GOP have had the Senate before this Election, they have the best possible map in their favor in generations and I would now wager money they do NOT take the Senate. Even worse? They will, absolutely, lose 7-10 seats in 2016.
THe focus is way too much on November and not on the rot in the GOPe. With the GOPe in charge, conservatism in America will die. Oh there will still be a few rattling around, but we are talking generations of Libtardism in all it’s forms.
“Republicans have a golden opportunity to take control of the Senate. But they just lie around like dead fish.”
SOP for a party run by campaign consultants and corporatists.
The GOPe has absolutely no desire to get into the trenches with the grassroots rabble.
A candidate capable of uniting the middle class with a message and policy proposals would be a formidable candidate. The GOPe isn’t interested in that.
Oh, bullcrap. The Dems message is "We're going to ram it up your backside as hard and often as we can, and if you know what's good for you, you'll say 'Thank you sir, may I have another?'"
This IS superior to the RINO platform, but only because the only thing most of them can think to say is "I'm just like the Democrat, only slightly better!"
The GOPe is not interested in winning and having to do something.
Yeah; Terri Land has run a good campaign. Can’t believe Peters is leading in this race. Well, yes I can; Michigan people really piss me off. I lived in MI for 10 years (’77-’87). Michigan has always been a high-tax, liberal State. Plus, you still have a lot of the “older” Hillbillies (and their off-springs) in MI who came up to work in the auto factories decades ago and they brought with them that Southern Democrat mind-set that says: “Democrats are for the working man; Republicans are for the rich.” Geesh.......
“Personally I think the democrats best weapon is conservatives who listen to what democrats say and repeat it for them. This BS about republicans not having a message is a perfect example.
While the national party itself doesn’t appear to have a consistent message, the individual candidates are running their own races and have their individual messages for their own states.”
Hear, hear!!!!
I want them to run as candidates for their own states. Two ads slapping Gary Peters on immigration.

You are exactly right. Much of the refrain from the "true conservatives" against GOP candidates here is word for word what originated from the left either from the media narrative or the opposing campaigns.
I’ve got a long history of being a “purist” but I actually do weigh pros and cons as well as look at strategies. So far I have yet to see any strategy that tells me that giving democrats complete unrestrained power is a good idea.
We can survive Obama but we can’t survive continued democrat control of the Senate + Obama.
