The failed Scottish vote to pull out from the United Kingdom stirred secessionist hopes for some in the United States, where almost a quarter of people are open to their states leaving the union, a new Reuters/Ipsos poll found.
Some 23.9 percent of Americans polled from August 23 through September 16 said they strongly supported or tended to support the idea of their state breaking away, while 53.3 per cent of the 8,952 respondents strongly opposed or tended to oppose the notion.
The urge to sever ties with Washington cuts across party lines and regions, though Republicans and residents of rural Western states are generally warmer to the idea than Democrats and Northeasterners, according to the poll.

I’d rather expel the treasonous states (any state that still supports the communist thug in our White House). Why should we leave if we can toss them out of a country they hate anyways? Also, I’d prefer to keep the military, which is mostly from the pro-Constitution states and mostly in favor of the rule of law, to make sure that the separation is peaceful. The military would most likely stay with the American states and not support those states that get expelled.
First thing I thought of is how hard is it to get 25% of the population to believe anything? Not very. More people probably believe in UFO’s.
Very good point. The actions of military leaders could be critical. If they adhered to their Oaths to the Constitution, rather than politicians in power at the time, then even the states who left the union would embrace the military in some form. If the military acts politically, it will be rejected by the people.
Again, I pray this does not happen.

I, for one will do every thing in my power to move to and swear allegiance to, the first state that does secede.

Texas is unique, in that it was an independent country that chose to join the Federal Union, later seceded, and was forcibly brought back into the Union, where it was never fully comfortable with being. A second secession would only confirm the reasons for the first secession (which had very little to do with slavery, but a great deal to do with States’ Rights, as delineated in the Tenth Amendment).
In 1861, slavery was legal in parts of the United States, not legal in others. If somehow, a slave escaped to one of the “free states”, the question of property rights came up, and the freedom thus gained was uncertain at best. Could a citizen of one of the “slavery permitted” states legally reclaim his property in another state, and how did the courts look at that claim?
The issue was not satisfactorily resolved until the passage of the 14th and 15th Amendments.

Phrased in this way the question would underestimate the true sentiment about secession. Many of us would find our CURRENT state as a seceded entity WORSE than the current United States. So we would vote NO.
The west and south are sick of being colonies of the federal government. The USA was not set up to have a strong central government that dictates to the states.

Just 23.9%? From this semi fascists/dictatorship called the
Obama regime. Why I say fascists/dictatorship? Because he
is going to get away with everything form Benghazi to using the IRS
to suppress his political opponents in a presidential election.
Hes going to get away with using the patent office to
deprive the Redskins of their copy rights. And the biggest
thing of all, not only allowing and abetting an outright
invasion of this country but infecting it with the Ebola
virus. This 23.9% thing tells me that 53.3% is either
illinformed, just plain ignorant or falsely believe that
the republicans are some day going to grow a pair. Well
good luck with that one.
It was the duty of every governor in the U.S. to announce the secession of his state on January 23, 1973. It was the duty of the President to announce the expulsion of California and New York when they legalized abortion several years earlier.
Of course, LBJ, who murdered JFK, was never going to do anything principled. And Nixon was quietly pro-abortion.
President Cruz should announce that the policy of his administration is that Roe, Doe, Casey, and the rest of the Supreme Court’s decisions are nullities, and his DoJ will treat them as such.
I have mixed feelings. My priority is returning to the rule of law. If we can do that as a unified country, that is my first choice, but restoring the Constitution is more important than unity.
I am thriving in it now but would do a whole lot better if we did not have the damn free loaders dragging us down.
I will do all I can do to keep America free but if it comes down to the freeloaders and The Republic of Texas, I choose Texas.
