Somebody is always talking about an October Surprise during an election year. The way I understand it, an October Surprise is a crisis event that was caused on purpose to manipulate the election. Knowing that, wouldn’t thinking people just observe that event and say, “Oh, that was the October Surprise,” and then just go ahead and vote the way the had planned to before the Surprise?

Yes, there will be an October Surprise, quite likely in the form of another government shutdown starting 01 OCT - followed by the EBT cards being turned off (damn those evil white Rethuglicans, the cry will ring out) and a few burning cities will swing the vote.
