McGovern: 'When are we going to do our job?'

Rep. James McGovern (D-Mass.) chastised Congress on Thursday for not voting on a full authorization of military force to fight Islamic extremists.

McGovern voted against the amendment to a stopgap funding bill Wednesday that would authorize arming and training Syrian rebels to fight the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). The Massachusetts Democrat argued that Congress should vote on a new authorization to use military force instead of allowing the Obama administration to use one from the previous decade.

"Unfortunately, it is not clear if any vote will ever happen at any time in this House, even after we come back in November, even though there's a growing bipartisan consensus that such an authorization is needed," McGovern said.

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has indicated that the House would not vote on a new authorization of force unless President Obama requested Congress to do so. But McGovern said that Congress shouldn't wait for the president to ask.

"It is Congress that is failing to carry out its constitutional responsibilities. It is Congress that is shirking its duties. It is Congress that is sniping from the sidelines while avoiding any responsibility for the servicemen and women that we are placing in harm's way," McGovern said.

In July, the House overwhelmingly passed a resolution stating that Congress should authorize sending any new combat troops to Iraq. McGovern said that members should apply the same to combating ISIS.

"I want to remind my colleagues that war is a big deal. It is a big deal. And it is long past time that this House treated it as such," McGovern said. "We have a constitutional responsibility that we're not living up to."

I hope McGovern's remarks reflect growing Democrat unhappiness with this Obama creature.

I am however, disappointed that the Other Party seems silent and disorganized on many issues;

They need to vote on a new war. This is NOT covered under the previous war authorizations.

Yesterday, Speaker “Blank Check” Boehner approved the spending of $ 500,000,000 of US Taxpayer Dollars to “train” 5,000 Syrian Muslim Rebels in Saudi Arabia for one year.

Here are a few discussion points that were NOT mentioned by Boehner:

* Each Syrian Muslim Rebel will cost $ 100,000 to train.

* 5,000 Syrian Muslim Rebels will be removed from the battlefields in Syria to a training site in Saudi Arabia for one year.

* The removal of 5,000 Syrian Muslim Rebels will leave their families with reduced protection from attack by Syrian Army troops, for one year.

* The removal of 5,000 Syrian Muslim Rebels will leave their families with NO protection from attack by ISIS troops, for one year.

* The removal of 5,000 Syrian Muslim Rebels from the battlefields of Syria will help both the Syrian and ISIS troops to more easily take over areas controlled by the Syrian Muslim Rebels.

BTW, before the US Senate approved Boehner’s Bailout Bill today did any US Senator mention that removing 5,000 Syrian Muslim Rebels from the battlefields of Syria, was in effect, “Giving Aid and comfort to the ENEMY” for the period of one year?

So let me get this straight...

Benghazi = Obammie the Commie and Hitlery run guns to al qaeda in Syria to replace the Syrian government with the muslime brotherhood.

Obammie the Commie tries to get us involved in a war against the Syrian government, supporting...al qaeda and in a proxy war with Russia. America not only says no, we say, HELL NO!

They turn a blind eye to the growing ISIS.

ISIS gets so big they completely undo all of our victory in the Iraq war.

Obammie the Commie states he doesn’t have a strategy.

Two weeks later he states his strategy. And that strategy is:

Let’s arm al qaeda in Syria to overthrow the Syrian government.

And no one in the MSM/state-run media is asking WTF??

Constitutional responsibilities? Don’t you realize James? Those are long gone.... Dead and buried thanks to this president and this congress.

It’s not George McGovern. He’s dead. This is James McGovern.

As Emily Latella would say, “Never-mind...”

LOL. Thanks for pointing that out. Somehow I missed it.

When I see the name McGovern, I instinctively think of George.

Guy crawled inside my head and stayed evidently.

George was my first thought too. But then I remembered he passed away a few years ago.

Yeah, for some reason I forgot that.

I find myself focusing more on concepts than people these days.

I try to bat down bad ideas or suggest good ones.
