The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
I was an airborne Ebola skeptic, and I don’t doubt that the virus will infect via a lung. Also someone pointed out on the Ebola thread that if you smell the excretions from the victim you have just breathed in viruses.
Last night I was listening to a dr in a podcast who was trying to explain that ebola can infect through the skin. If it can get through the skin barrier, then the lining of the mouth, esophagus and lungs is not an issue.
The big problem is how little of the virus is needed to cause an infection.
Frankly, I don’t know what we haven’t had a pandemic of this monster until now.
