“Professional football has long since become a bread and circuses forum for glorifying thug culture. Good guys and sportmanship are more sparse by the year. There isn’t much left there for conservatives to defend.”

Remember also, before the current era of hype and celebrity began in the mid 1960s, pro sports were mainly statistical generators for the gambling industry. Look at old films of regular season games, and see how sparse the actual attendance was.

I think of that every time a cellphone ad brays, “Get the latest sports scores!” Everybody knows they mean, “Call your bookie!”

Not to mention where all sports leagues would be if beer advertising were banned. I’m not anti-sports but let’s be realistic about what has grown up around it, and what it is dependent on. It’s a multitude of sketchy symbiotic relationships that are increasingly moving pro sports away from the iconic Americana we wrongly associate it with.

Well, it is the arena of “journalism” that spawned Keith Olbermann.

I think the answer here is the LMSM attracts as many gay sports reporters as gay weathermen. Where else can they hang out with locker rooms full of athletic males, and not be bothered by icky women hanging around? That’s where their liberal ideology comes from — sports reporters are mostly closet homos.

It’s like asking why there are so many gay priests. “Can’t ever have sex or get married? Cloister myself with men and boys? No problem — sign me up!”

Yes — any who keeps hiring “men” like Olbermann and all the other perverts? It’s the same pink mafia that runs the rest of the LMSM. That’s who all the decision-makers are in film and television. That’s why it’s all gotten so weird.

It’s like when department stores hire a lot of gay buyers on their staff, and they start filling the Menswear racks with gay looking crap that no self-respecting male would ever wear, like those pink madras plaid shirts & shorts that are always on sale at the end of the season so their friends can buy them at half price.

In the Womens’ Dept. they stock ridiculous sparkly fluff that no self-respecting woman would ever wear because it’s too small, too demeaning, or too slutty. Because that’s what they think of women.

Do we even see many attractive women on TV anymore? Not nearly as many as we used to. Why is that, I wonder? Hmmm.....

They’re mostly lesbians, because that’s who gets hired.

You're right, it was 1090. I used to listen at different times of the day, but I honestly couldn't take it for long. The idea of sponsors aligning themselves with the nastiness of their format was apparently impossible to accept.

On the weekend we sometimes tuned in to a show called "Ring of Fire" which was really an advertising vehicle for a slip and fall lawyer from Florida. He had Bob by Kennedy Jr. on there whining about the environment and you could run out of fingers and toes trying to count their lies in just the first hour. They we also a very nasty duo - but I guess that thread runs through all liberal personalities.

Libs attack football because it is simultaneously HUGE, AMERICAN, and FINANCIALLY SUCCESSFUL on a Biblical scale. Also, “regular” Americans love football and DO NOT CARE about that other sport that is worshipped in Europe, France, South America, France, and France. These alone are reasons for conservatives to defend football. Sure, there are thugs in the NFL, but Peyton Manning is also in the NFL, and Sam Mills was also in the NFL.

Well said. Liberals didn’t make the cool players unwilling or unable to self police the jerkwads who execute all the fruity prancing and chest slapping displays. The inherent nature of football’s rules and how popular it is dictated that, as far as I tell. NFL only got more popular after all that garbage became common, there’s a lot of fans that don’t dig it, but the great majority seem to love it.

Also an ultra popular farm system makes it much harder to weed out the talented jerks before they make it to the big show.

I’m a ‘regular American’; Christian, served 8 years in the Army, own guns, like women, been voting conservative since I turned 18, hunt and fish and I could give a rat’s ass about the NFL, over paid primadonnas, thugs....

Baseball, now you’re talking!

Re: “Hanna [Storm] was the trailblazer”

Actually, you need to go back another 20 years.

Jane Chastain was the first female full time sports reporter on TV.

Ralph Rennick, a legendary local news anchor in Miami, hired her in 1967 at WTVJ, the CBS affiliate, which is why I know about her.

She was also the first to broadcast a college bowl game, and she was the first female sideline reporter for the NFL.

And, this story also has an amazing “right” turn in it.

Chastain is a life long Conservative and currently works for World Net Daily!
