That's offensive? I still use the term “oriental” to refer to someone of Asian background if I don't know specifically where they are from (sort of like European). Never knew even that is considered offensive now. So what IS the politically correct term for someone from Asia if you don't specifically know what country they are from?

That's offensive? My towns' high school's sports teams were known as The Pekin,(Illinois) Chinks until the late 80s, when they bowed to P.C. pressure and changed the name to the unimaginative, "Pekin Dragons".

“. Never knew even that is considered offensive now. So what IS the politically correct term for someone from Asia if you don’t specifically know what country they are from? “

I was corrected by someone in 1994 when I used the descriptive “Oriental”,so “Asian” has been preferred for some time-—at least 20 years.

(I remember the exact year because I was meeting someone for the first time.)

This is the first I'm hearing that "orient" is now offensive. It's a perfectly acceptable from a literary perspective.

The term "Oriental" is also proper, however it refers to objects like merchandise or goods etc., not people.

If you're using the (linguistically improper) term "Oriental" to describe people, many will think you ignorant regardless of their politics or adherence to political correctness.

Doesn’t matter if you did not know it was offensive. You shall be beheaded by the PC police.
