Students can be incredibly stupid, naive, and uninformed. Think of the ones who used to jump to the tune of Joe Stalin before and during WWII. In the 1930s there was a German American Bund camp near my teen home in NJ. It was near Kikeout Mountain. No joke.
omewhere along the line, Kinnelon and Butler’s Kikeout Road had its named changed to Kakeout Road, seemingly to avoid a perception of anti-Semitism, even though the original name had nothing to do with any ill will toward Jews.
According to the Morris County Department of Planning and Development, the area was originally named “Kikeout” because “The Dutch word for lookout is ‘Kike.’ Over the years, variations in the spelling have occurred; such as Kake Out Road and Kike Out Road.”
