As the pounding of war drums intensifies against ISIS and its advances in Iraq and Syria, at least one senator is voicing opposition to plans to arm Syrian rebels and says he's willing to shut down the government over it.
Sen. Joe Manchin, a West Virginia Democrat who often finds himself at odds with the White House, said spending $500 million to provide weapons to groups in Syria that are fighting both ISIS and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad will backfire.
"At the end of the day, most of the arms that we give to people are used against us. Most of the people we train turn against us," Manchin said Tuesday on CNN's "New Day."

Shut down ..FEDERAL givernment.. NOT State or Local givernment..
No ... Scumbag Joe is a backstabbing leftist.
I’m not sure what his game here is, but he is not sane, and he is not to be trusted.
He had a very good point today, which coincided with Limbaugh today:
We trained the Iraqi army for ten years - and they folded when ISIS attacked them. So why on earth would we believe training ‘moderate rebels’ would have a different outcome?
Good point. On the face of it, Obama's "strategy" makes no sense. We are going to arm supposedly "moderate" Syrians who are fighting against one force that's effectively fighting ISIS (Assad), and that are allied with ISIS. And somehow this is going to weaken ISIS? WTF?
Well, Obama sad it will work. What more do you need to know.
I agree. This is the asinine thing I’ve ever heard of. Obama is force to back peddle cause he pulled us out of Iraq, not men and women are going to put their lives on the line to make right what he did, although there’s nothing that can be done. Plus the Syrian rebels have a pack agreement with ISIS.
I agree, not a single US soldier should be fighting there.
I live in his backyard and I agree with you. But he happens to be right here. Blind squirrel, acorn and all that.
Arming Syrian rebels who have a history of cooperation with ISIS makes ZERO sense.
Arming Kurdish rebels who have a history of fighting them, OTOH, is quite a different story.
I can imagine my life with no federal government.
I really only need them for their international military abilities,
and lately they seem to get that all screwed up.
Mail delivery? Meat inspection? etc., etc.?
I can either do without them,
or something else will come along to fill the void.
Fedgov is basically worthless!
Manchin is a politician who follows the wind where it leads, but the policing of the world going on right now as pushed by Obama, McCain (The Uniparty) etc. is insanity.
Im not sure what his game here is...
**********
Nothing but posturing. Not a sincere bone in his body.
How about shutting down the Federal government until Obama and his filthy democrats step down from power. Simply p!ssing off Obama doesn’t work.
Frankly, I am not the least bit concerned that ISIS will ever get close enough to me to slit my throat, but the real and present danger that has been and will continue to destroy this once great country are the corrupt ba$tards in power. Well, and the drooling parasitic voters that walk our streets.
I’m a WEST Virginian also ...
I agree that arming “moderate” (HAH!) Syrian rebels is a bad idea ... I just don’t trust Manchin, and I think it’s a good idea to warn others about him.
A lot of folks think Manchin will become a Republican if the GOP takes the Senate this fall. Looks like he’s staking out his ground to make the switch.
Another mindless rush in the senate to pass a bill to funnel taxpayer money to muslims.
By the 2016 election season every democrat who votes to finance this madness will be claiming they were fooled into it by a republican.
He's trying to bait the Republicans into a shutdown before the election. Then the media will collude and blame only Republicans.
Sane enough to recognize that standing with Obama is killing him.
I think you got it ... that makes perfect sense.
Correction, CNN. Slick Joe is willing to go on TV and say that he is at odds with the White House, but when it counts, he's just as much of Obama's b__tch as the rest of them.
