In the waning moments UK prime Minister David Cameron warns Scots "Leave and You Go Forever".
Actually, the warning probably should be "Stay and you stay forever" because the UK will never allow such a vote again.
Regardless, no country should want to be under the thumb of another.

They'll do what Ireland did. Leave it up to the warlike English to defend them. Which is kind of amusing, since a big reason England conquered Wales, Ireland and Scotland was to put an end to raids into English territory.

Do you know that, if "yes" wins, that the margin of victory will be from Nigerian "Scots" and Pakistani "Scots", who are polling 98% "yes"?
Do you think that Africans and Pakistanis who moved to the UK for the benefits should be able to dissolve a 400 year old European state?
It's cynical as heck, but any state that seceded from the union would probably do something similar, assuming secession occurred peacefully. The only way for England to guarantee that an independent Scotland maintains a strong defense is to attack and bomb the heck out of it, and generally work to prevent it from leaving the union.
What’s worse is that if “yes” wins the immigrants will be owed a debt, and what they want is many more immigrants and freedom from immigration laws and controls imposed by the UK.
Scotland may become its own country but its not going to be anything like Scotland for very much longer.
All the Scots have to do defeat an enemy is to paint their faces blue and moon their foes. Right?
Actually an interesting question. Continue in NATO with England or declare neutrality? I have read nothing on detail plans if the independence movement wins the vote.
Muslims are 1% of Scotland's population. Nigerians (some of whom are Muslims) are less than 1%. If they represent the margin of victory, then it will have been a very close referendum. I blame Tony Blair, who opened the floodgates during his tenure. To the extent England blames a party for Scottish independence, it really ought to be Labour.
Where do you get those statistics? I was in Edinburgh and it doesn’t seem like that is the composition of the population at all. . .
Since the Scots invented the world it seems only right they should have a country in it.
Wikipedia. Similarly, NYC doesn't represent NY's population, any more than Memphis represents TN's population or Atlanta represents GA's population.
