Energy boom fueled by small business, not Big Oil, industry report says

When it comes to the U.S. energy boom, small and mid-size firms -- not Big Oil -- are providing the momentum for growth, according to an American Petroleum Institute report released Tuesday (Sept. 9).

The industry group's report looks at the oil and gas supply chain in all 50 states, listing more than 30,000 firms across the country. The findings were based on a nationwide survey asking oil and gas companies what suppliers, contractors and other vendors they use.

"Oil and natural gas companies are only one part of a much larger economic success story that is creating job growth up and down the supply chain," API Upstream Group Director Erik Milito said in a statement. "From the folks who make work gloves to environmental consultants, these businesses represent just a small cross-section of the opportunities created by America's energy revolution."

Unsurprisingly, the numbers are highest for the nation's largest energy producing states, including Louisiana.

Louisiana ranked fourth in the nation for the total number of vendors supporting the oil and gas…

I am probably one of the smallest, at 5’2”. I own one whole acre in the Tuscaloosa Trend area of Louisiana from which I receive an oil royalty check of about $100/month.

BTW, your description is wrong. It is not leaky water wells, it is leaking gas wells not properly cemented.

You are so pleasantly precise and thorough that I never mind when you find my errors. I put up the link too fast and couldn’t take the time to go back and get the actual title. Sorry and thank you again for clearing up the matter for me. (grin)

Thanks for the heads up. I believe little if anything from the site you quoted. The trolls for and against any investment make it worthless for me. So I stopped using it about a year ago. That site has been whining and moaning about the AMPL tax problems since 2010.

Re the tax problems, they will have to pay as of the end of August, and the stock prices have gone up. Go figure?!

However thanks to you, I decided to check on AMPL on my Fido site re what the analysts are saying about it.

My favorite analyst group, Zacks downgraded its rating at the end of August and so did others.

At that time I was in the post earthquake status, and this week is the first time I have done any reviewing of any of our etfs or mlps.

I sold all of my AMPL this morning and made a nice profit plus a lot of dividends over the past years. When one is in their mid 70’s, dividends are very/very important.

At this time I’m looking at buying Fido’s energy ETF, FENY. Also, at this time Zacks and others are giving FENY good ratings. When I got into AMPL, they were panning FENY and pushing AMPL. Times and conditions can change radically, which is why the old buying and holding stock/etf/funds forever, only makes the sellers wealthy and happy.

Thanks again for the heads up. I will ask the admin mod to remove my reply recommending AMPL.

I wouldn't bother, the info is there for any that want to research and make investment.
