Brother of Beheaded American Journalist James Foley: State Department Threatened Us
Townhall.com ^ | September 12, 2014 | Katie Pavlich

In an exclusive interview with Fox News' Megyn Kelly last night on the Kelly File the brother of beheaded American journalist James "Jim" Foley, Michael Foley, expressed disappointment over how the Obama administration is handling the threat of terror army ISIS and in the administration's handling of his brother's capture leading up to his death. James Foley was beheaded three weeks ago by an ISIS terrorist and a YouTube video of the gruesome murder was posted online. President Obama was on vacation at the time and eight minutes after making a statement about the murder, returned to the golf course, a move a majority of Americans found to be in bad taste.

In reacting to President Obama's speech earlier this week, Foley said he wanted to see a more involved strategy put on the table to stabilize the region. Further in reaction to a question posed by Kelly about whether the Obama administration did everything it could to bring James Foley home, especially after the Bowe Bergdahl swap and comments by Obama saying Americans leave no man behind, Michael Foley said his family is "appalled" by the situation. Foley also talked about how he was threatened directly by the State Department and said that when the family tried to get information from the U.S. government or from other allies, they were stonewalled.

Kelly: I'm wondering if you feel he [Obama] and the administration did all they could to get Jim back.

Foley: No, no. We're appalled by the situation and you know, it went past not doing everything they could, they were actually in impedance and got in our way and that's what really bothers me to the core. We were, I was specifically threatened by the Department of State about raising funds toward ransom demands for my brother. We were smart enough to look past it but it slowed us down. We lost a lot of time trying to regroup.

"The video just struck me to the core that, just the evil this group has, I just can't wrap my mind around that. Jim was such a good person. I wish I could even come close to his approach to life. He really, really cared about the disadvantaged his entire career from teaching in inner city Phoenix to working with mother's getting their GED's in Chicago and all of his work in the Middle East to bring light to all of the atrocities there," Foley said. "It was just a circumstance, an ending that I could have never imagined."

Was Hill or Kerry or both in charged when this family was threatened?

It is becoming more and more apparent with each passing day that if we ever get a legitimate President again, one of their first actions should be to thoroughly clean house - not only political appointees, but the rotting entrenched bureaucracy as well, and replace them with honest, hard working PUBLIC SERVANTS who put America, Americans and The Constitution first!

Tough decision: Offend his golfing buddies or offend sheeple who can't vote for or against him again anyway.

I am ok with our State Department reminding someone that it is a crime - both in law and against your country - to give psychotic terrorists $millions to continue their jihad.

(Which is what the mom said happened.)

For a President who can’t even manage himself off the golf course, there is no way he has the capacity to manage a war with ISIS. Zer0 is not packing any management skills. He is a script reader without even the skills to write his own speech. Can you imagine President Abe Lincoln with the aptitude of Zer0 trying to manage the Civil War as Commander in Chief? No way. We don’t call him Zer0 for nothing.

Amen to that. Foley was a jerk for trying to buddy up with Islamic psychotics in Syria and his family were jerks for trying to pay them off so they could go do more evil in the world.

I can’t disagree with that.

But.....in principle I see the Bergdahl swap as the same thing, only much worse.

The family paying a ransom does supply the terrorists with funds. But the US government capitulation and payoff with returned murderers has much worse long term consequences.

As the orientals said of the US in the 60s, just proof we are a paper tiger. Worse with Obama, proof of outright cowardice.

You make a good point. I'm appalled too, and sometimes infuriated, by the actions of Obama's administration.

And I, too, sympathize with the victims. UNTIL I discover they were/are supporters of his.

All sympathy immediately vanishes. No apologies. I just can't do it.

Says it all (above). Simple, to the point. Could anyone think of the outrage if this administration was republican by the lame-stream? The wooly monster comes out of the swamp.

I am ok with our State Department reminding someone that it is a crime - both in law and against your country - to give psychotic terrorists $millions to continue their jihad.

The reality says otherwise. Individuals have been ransomed from terrorists whether it is in Columbia or the Middle East. Corporations or individuals have provided the ransom money.

The USG negotiates with terrorists but uses the fig leaf of interlocutors like Qatar. We traded five high ranking terrorist leaders to get back someone who went AWOL in a war zone. When we negotiate with North Korea to get back US citizens, there are "unrelated" aid packages that are coincidentally provided at the same time. We had countless prisoner swaps with the Soviets. Our public policy of not negotiating with terrorists has been violated many times using verbal gymnastics and contrived surrogates.

I spent 28 years in the State Department as an FSO.

You may be ok with the State Dept telling a family it can not pay a ransom to get a loved one back. What if it were your loved one?
and the State Dept stonewalled you for information
and what if our dipchit of pres cared more about golf and fundraising that in protecting American lives?

if it were your son and the gov’t acted or rathe didn’t act the same way are you seriously saying you wouldn’t do everything you could to save him> You’d let him die?
WOW. just Wow
