For the terrorist group known as the Islamic State, Syria and Iraq were a good place to start their campaign, but in order to survive and prosper it knew from the outset that it had no choice but to set its sights on the ultimate prize: the oil fields of Saudi Arabia.
It is in that direction that the battle for control of the worlds largest oil fields is currently heading.
Islamic State -- which has its origins in al-Qaeda knows fully well that in order to sustain itself as a viable and lasting religious, political, economic and military entity in the region, it has to follow the same objectives established by al-Qaeda when Osama bin Laden broke off his relations with the Saudi monarchy and vowed to bring down the House of Saud.
Bin Ladens ire at the Saudi monarchy stemmed from the fact that Saudi King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al Saud invited the American military to use Saudi Arabia as a staging area to build up forces to take on the then Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein after Iraqi troops occupied Kuwait in August of 1990. Bin Laden objected to the presence of infidels in the land of the two holy mosques, and asked the king to allow his outfit to tackle Saddam Husseins troops.
Similarly, IS knows that it will only feel secure once Saudi Arabia is part of the Caliphate, and its oil fields are under IS control -- which is why the group has two logical next steps.
First, to capture and secure the most important country in the Muslim world: Saudi Arabia.

Well at least unlike the Saudis, they won’t pretend to be our friends.
I think there’s something to this. I’ve seens bits and pieces of news lately that indicate SA is increasing its awareness of the dangers here with tighter border controls and condemnations to the IS fanatics. And more.
And that’s good. I would not be too unhappy at all to see the Saudi’s handle this mess. Better them that the US.
WE are the ones that should have taken the saudi wells after 9/11.....
I wonder what crap that points to the Saudis was redacted inthe official 9/11 reports....
Posh, there is oil a lot of places, what the Caliphate
MUST have is control of the holy cities.
FOX NEWS is reporting that Obama is on the phone with King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia to brief him in advance on what he’s going to say in his address to the nation regarding his plan against ISIS tonight.
Very interesting. Puts a lot peices to the puzzle.
Its kinda hard to redact that every damn hijacker was Saudi.
You reap what you sow. Post bin Laden al Qaeda was a Saudi financed Sunni international fighting force that the Saudis deployed in Syria and Iraq. They had hoped to establish an Arabic speaking Sunni state composed of large parts of Syria and Iraq to oppose Iran. IS evolved from this creation and
soon it became apparent that the Saudis had lost control. What’s more the barbaric IS jihadists view themselves as better custodians of Islam’s holy sites and the oil beneath them. The jihadists have little regard or use for the “Saudi royal family”. That is why King Abdullah is begging Obama to act against IS despite Obama’s ambivalence about ordering white Christian infidel pilots to bomb dark skinned Muslims. The irony is that despite the hundreds of advanced jet aircraft in the Saudi air force, they have not flown one sortie against ISIS.
Not likely that they want to control oil, rather to shut it down. I was told that once by an Egyptian Muslim who explained the whole fundamentalist appeal of Osama bin Laden to the Islamic masses. Their intrepretation is that the wealth and excesses brought to the Saudis by oil are a corruption of true Islam, so as fundamentalists they would seek to shut oil production down to end the corruption it brought to their religion.
The author’s vision is too narrow.
The “Caliphate” is to conquer the ENTIRE WORLD and bring all infidels into islam.
Oil is beside the point.
Wish for once we’d tell the Saudis, ‘Sorry son, you’re on your own.’ I’m sick of the US military serving as the Saudis’ errand boy.
RE: The Caliphate is to conquer the ENTIRE WORLD and bring all infidels into islam.

Well, as Mao Tze Tung used to say... “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”.
First, the oil, then the infidels.
the oil is simply a perk not the goal.
Let them try.... No more US combat troops to fight Muslim wars!
[ Its kinda hard to redact that every damn hijacker was Saudi. ]
Not to mention all the money being funneld to various terrorist groups FROM the saudis....
We should have invaded SA and taken over every damned oild field after 9/11....
That would have ended the “Funding pipeline” for terrorism...
ISIS knocking off the Saudis could be a blessing in disguise.
