This is what happened when I drove my Mercedes to get Food Stamps. She was approved and she drove home in that same Mercedes. What’s she griping about?

2003 SLK Kompressor.

If it was paid off and still reliable, I think they did the right thing by keeping it. It’s only worth about $7,000 (tops) and you’d be hard pressed to replace it with something as reliable for that much money.

Unless the supercharger takes a dump on you - then you’re talking about some significant repair expenses.

The Mercedes in your picture is NOT the one that belongs to this woman and her husband.

Just because some BS site like “Viral Survival” or “Secrets of the Fed” claims that car is the Mercedes in the article is meaningless.

That car in your picture is, in fact, a Mercedes SLR McLaren, a very limited production car that cost something like $450K when new.

If hubby owned that car, and had it paid off, there’s no way he would have been living in a $240K house.

The woman’s Mercedes is probably a C230K, an entry-level Mercedes which cost about $30K.

I skimmed this article as I think it is BS, but I did see this Gem:

President Obama’s programs — from the extended unemployment benefits to the tax-free allowance for short-selling a home we couldn’t afford — allowed us to crawl our way out of the hole.

Hallelujah brothers! Thank God almighty for President O!!

Without him, none of this would be possible!

This article is a three bag barfer.

It’s really hard to find sympathy....

Yep.

She was *GASP* judged by the choices that she made. How dare they!!!

The definition of a conservative is a liberal who's been mugged. This fool got mugged by reality, and is still singing the praises of Obama. Some people are just hopeless.

That is hardly life long dependence which is people’s problems with it.

Liberals like to confuse the two to make us look like we're heartless.

Few object to people who are temporally down on their luck getting food stamps. Total humiliation isn't a prerequisite. And like you say, our problem is with the people who think living off the dole is a career choice.

She pretty much knows that as she gives credit to him at the end of her pity me story.

In the USAF we managed to take care of our own long before obummer was a wet spot on his mother's sheets.

We had our "coffee fund" everyone in the shop put in a buck or two. The shop chief used to buy "coffee" (bulk issue or surplus goods shelf stuff) at the commissary. He put the goods by the pot for anybody who needed it. If we had any extra we would put it there too.

Everyone up to the squadron's CO helped and no one's family went hungry. We never had anyone claim they had to go on foodstamps.

Here in upstate NY, the “common” welfare vehicle is a Lincoln or a Caddie.

Another thought. This woman says her boyfriend was making $95,000 a year and bought a Mercedes.

That right there is proof that this couple is never going to have two dimes to rub together.

I can see her point. Why trade a known reliable, paid off car for one that is a gamble?

Another two Millenials wonder what went wrong. Maybe I can explain your problem to you Darlena noting first that this will also work for your husband.

Step 1: Walk into the bathroom.
Step 2: Turn on the light.
Step 3: Look into the mirror.

You will see your problem.

I don’t object to her getting government aid for a short while as a holdover. I agree that’s what it is there for.

I object to a whole slew of bad choices that two educated people who should have known better (come on, babydaddy bought $30,000 worth of car with a gross salary of $95,000 - who does that?) made that led them to that place.

Anybody can lose a job. Anybody can run into unexpected health problems and medical expenses. But this woman is thanking Obama for saving her when really she should (1) be thanking the rest of us for the tax dollars and (2) probably spend more time warning others to avoid the special kind of stupid she and her boyfriend displayed repeatedly.

I helped put our church food pantry bags of groceries into an Escalade. This gal had called the church, couldn’t get there during pantry hours. No prob, we will put together a couple bags for ya. She got there wearing scrubs, I figured a dental assistant or some such. Good for her, couldn’t get here because of a job, but just needs help. No problem. I help her carry out the 2 bags and see this vehicle that is worth more than the 4 vehicles self/wife/kids drive combined. Kids in the back and a guy in the front passenger seat...Nice rims on it too...I guess I am still bitter about it because I still tell the same story...

I like your post. Well said.

I agree. My wife and I just bought a home a year after our son was born.

I bought a humble 3 bed 1 bath cottage. I put down 23%. My total monthly payments including mortgage, taxes, and insurance is less than 1,600 bucks, and that is in NJ.

I make a good living. I technically could afford a much bigger house with a much bigger mortgage payment. When my parents and friends ask why I didn’t do that I tell them that I could afford this house even if I was unemployed without going into debt, simply on unemployment benefits while I looked for new work. They get it, but they still think I’m crazy, especially since I’ve been at this gig for almost 9 years (Stable).

In the end, the 3 of us didn’t need something bigger and the house in on a lake in a great neighborhood! When no.2 comes, I’ll have to move, but we like living within our means, to be honest. It is comfortable and enables us to not have to watch every single purchasing decision like a damn hawk. If we want to do something special, or buy someone something nice, or go away for the weekend, we can, etc.
