If only we would invest that kind of money in manufacturing something, instead of casinos. We are such a mess.
I went to Atlantic City a few times in the late 1980s, overnight bus tours. Even when the casinos were new, AC was doing nothing to make the shore clean, safe, and a nice beach to visit.
What are they going to do with the empty buildings?
And Chris Christie thinks more gambling (sports gambling) is the solution to all of NJ’s economic woes.
Atlantic city has been mostly a dangerous depressed 3rd world type slum since 1970 or so. The entire (public) idea behind casinos was to draw in billions to lift up the city, but instead it skyrocketed prices and certain property values to the point that nobody could afford to live there.
The real reason was to rake in millions for the connected crime boss/politicians.
Its literally a crime infested slum outside the boardwalk and now that is failing along with the rest of this economic ‘recovery.’
Its hopeless in a democrat environment. They should bulldoze it to the ground.
Casino gambling in states like Pennsylvania have decimated Atlantic City’s lure to east coast gamblers.
By the way, Pennsylvania is only second to Nevada in state gambling revenues, beating New Jersey easily.
