CBS evening news reported for the first time last night with video about these knockout games. I think FOX had it 6 months ago. Gail King this morning was “saddened” about the kroger incident. Sheesh, they spent 5 minutes on the football guy hitting his now wife and only 10 seconds on these wild bands of teenage thugs - talk about an epidemic.
As a 40 year plus Memphian, I am not surprised at all. Most parents Black and White expect their children to behave. I have black women come into my home daily. We have the same conversations as my White friends.
I agree, and always thought the words Edward Norton spoke in that movie were true, I still feel that way. Flame away!

Most of the “parents” turning them in have been grandparents. In other words, those raised not to put up with this nonsense.
Not much seen or heard nationally about these attacks yet a pimple on the ass of time football player beating his girlfriend on camera is national news 24/7 with the accompanying hand-wringing about the actions that should be taken. He’s no different from these animals other than he is a player in the national cult of celebrity.

That’s not my experience. I too am a 40 year plus Memphian and I’m surprised. I do know many responsible blacks who are even more concerned about the black community than whites. These folks certainly exist, but they are a real minority. Many of them are doing what I did. They are packing their bags and moving to Desoto County or Germantown or Collierville. I’m still in Memphis every day, but my wife and teenage daughters are safer in Mississippi.
That said, far too many black parents make excuses for their children. My mother stopped teaching in the school system not too long after integration. She didn’t have a problem teaching black kids. All these years later she maintains relationships with some of her former students. What she had a problem with was her inability to discipline or give accurate grades. She was unwilling to pass failing students and she demanded respect and order in the classroom. She had black mother’s threaten her for sending their babies to the office (she had to stop paddling years before). She has lots of stories about those years that would underscore my point.
In the 80’s, the early years of my legal career, I did some criminal work because it was assigned to me. It was rare to meet a black mother who wasn’t defending her child’s criminal behavior. To some extent whites do it as well, but the overwhelming number of defendants that came through the office were black. At that time most of it was juvenile stuff. Today many of the crimes in question are hardcore adult crimes.
I don’t remember that area as being bad, however the neighborhood where may aunt and her husband were mugged was and is still consider good.
No. It’s been my observation that responsible black parents will never excuse misbehaviors of their children. They will turn in their kids if they have to.
Of course “responsible” black parents turn their kids in. Do you believe most black parents in Memphis proper (I’m excluding suburban Memphis) are responsible?
I think even decent black parents have a lot of trouble holding their own against both the pervasive rap culture that glorifies thug behavior and the climate of racial hostility and grievance that Obama has created. Teenagers want to do what the pack does, and this pack has some very bad leaders.
