Michael Beschloss is a fool.
Obama would say that ISIS is punching above their weight.
His unstated strategy is to (a) allow (b) enable) ISIS to succeed in region, and (c) spread globally. He wants the caliphate to rule globally.
POSOTUS, his cabinet and CONgress should resign. Kindergartners vs. JV. It’s no match. Jihadis run circles around these kids, as they have around the 1st graders at the new school in Iraq (not to mention the international schools in U.K., Germany, Norway, Spain, etc., etc.)
Lets extract ourselves militarily and monetarily from this latest (oh no another crisis!) iteration of a foreign entanglement and see how this plays out without us.
The religion of peace (/sarcasm) has enough manpower and weaponry to defeat those (like ISIS) who have hijacked (/sarcasm) the religion of peace (/sarcasm) Let them duke/nuke it out.
(R.I.P. Americas finest)
So IS is, in fact, no big deal after all.
Sure, this isn't as pithy as "pay any price, bear any burden," or "tear down this wall."
But to say Obama hasn't thought his plan through to handle IS is a disservice to someone who historian Michael Beschloss has declared to be "probably the smartest guy ever to become president."
I like your conclusion and the way you said it. Well done my FRiend.
Obama’s thinking on ISIS appears incoherent, but that’s because the key to his thinking is missing.
Obama cannot, under any circumstances, visualize America victorious, because he believes, deeply, that America is the CAUSE of evil in the world.
He knows, on some level, that is is bad, somehow, for Americans to whom he owes some sort of duty to be having their heads sawed off on YouTube. Even in a primitive way (it may hurt fighting global warming and passing amnesty, for example), he knows it has to stop.
But all of the ways to really stop it involve some variation on “America wins”, and that, he cannot countenance.
Thus, the incoherence.
