Dozens of fast food workers have been arrested at protests around the country where they are demanding higher pay at popular restaurants such as McDonald's, Burger King and Domino's.
Fast food workers in New York City, Chicago, Detroit and possibly more cities were arrested for blocking traffic in front of restaurants early Thursday morning, while thousands more continued protesting peacefully, according to news reports.
Backed by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), fast food workers in 150 cities are walking off the job and picking up picket signs to demand that they be paid no less than $15 per hour. This is the seventh strike organized by the Fast Food Forward campaign since November 2012, when the campaign began. "At Thursdays strike, fast food restaurants will see firsthand that workers are willing to do whatever it takes to win $15 and union rights, said Kendall Fells, the organizing director at Fast Food Forward, which receives funding from the SEIU.
The fast food workers started the demonstrations early Thursday morning. At a McDonald's in New York City's Times Square, about 300 people showed up to protest, with reports indicating at least 19 were arrested.
In Detroit, about 200 fast food workers protested outside a McDonald's on the east side of the city with 42 people being arrested, according to reports.
The demonstrations also spread to Chicago, where about 150 fast food workers protested outside a popular Windy City McDonald's with another 23 being arrested.
The fast food workers said earlier this week that some were planning to be arrested during the protests. In many cases, they were arrested for blocking traffic, while people who picketed peacefully were not taken into custody.
The restaurant workers say anything less than $15 an hour is not a livable wage.

$15 mentality...
Street walkers generally make more than $15 an hour, that is if they are any good.
Just sayin’
They should take it to school. Want a better paying job? Learn a trade or profession.
To the workers: Good luck.
You’ll need it.
While striking, you might want to think about some elementary economics.
I know, math - even simple econ math - is hard for liberals.
But you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do.
Would they rather have a job at $8 or $9 an hour, vs. No job if minimum wage were $15 an hour???
Automation is the answer
These idiots. People see fast food as discretionary. Bye, Bye jobs.
It’s pretty clear that computers and robots will replace most jobs within 20-50 years. I’d think the better way to go would be to make no minimum wages. The country with the highest employment, Switzerland, has no bottom level. That means anybody, regardless of how poorly they perform, can find a job doing something.
I too wish they would take it to school. I wish they would educate themselves about economics and why certain jobs pay what they do. And also learn what education and training they need to get a better paying job.
The way these issues are discussed, you would swear the people are relegated to minimum wage jobs for life. It doesn’t have to be that way, and is not that way, for those who choose to get education and training for something better.
Singapore has no minimum wage either. I see no one complaining about poverty there.
Well when Mickey Dee’s and Wendy’s and Burger King go with self check out these morons will be out on the street looking for another job and wishing they had their old wages.
Taking it to the streets is appropriate. If they insist on earning $15 an hour, that’s where they’ll be . . . on the street . . .
Rent a mob....these yobs do not have jobs
No doubt, this group is probably not the most gifted intellectually, but it seems that too much resistance and the era of Rosie from the Jetsons may be ushered in prematurely.
Trades generally take 1 to 2 years, then start working. Trade jobs, especially construction related, are in high demand. They also generally have lower tuition. Don’t pay horribly either.
Machines and automation are a much better solution. Cleaner, faster, and more reliable.
It’s not the poor schlubs working the fast food joints that are “striking”,
it’s SEIU purple people beaters posing as “workers”.
I was listening to the FOX news update on the radio and they interviewed one of these “gourmet” chefs and she complained she couldn’t support herself and her five kids on $8 an hour. What else needs to be said about that statement and the havoc the Democratic Party has wreaked on America.
