KYIV, September 4 /Ukrinform/. Many coalmines have been destroyed as a result of fighting in Ukraine's eastern regions, and the losses of coal needed for the country's energy security have already reached 3.4 million tonnes.

First Deputy Minister for Energy and Coal Industry Yuriy Ziukov said this on Thursday at a meeting of the coordinating council for the restoration of Ukrainian statehood in the Donbas and Crimea, which was held at Ukrinform.

"Over the period of the hostilities, which began in late April, we lost 3.4 million tonnes of coal, which could have been extracted at these enterprises, including 2.3 million tonnes of anthracite," Ziukov said.

In particular, he focused on the situation at most state-owned mines. "Of the 95 state-owned mines currently operating are 24. They are operating normally, and all workers are fully involved there. Fifty-seven mines are in life support mode, employing a minimum of people to support them. Thus, about 70,000 miners are currently not involved in the production process," he said.

Ukraine should sue Putin. Take him to the World Court and win a victory. Granted, it won’t be enforced, but it would establish that he’s a thief and a murderer, not just a former KGB Colonel turned President for Life.
