My daughter is a kindergarten teacher in an urban public school in Massachusetts. Kindergarten is a time for finger painting and socialization. No longer.
She had to start teaching this curriculum last year in a sort of guinea pig “experiment”. Her class included some normal kids, some not so normal kids and future serial killers.
The demands put on the teachers to teach to the test with the “new improved techniques” and to achieve the expected results, was overwhelming.
She’s at a crossroads this year,(and she’s not alone in this dilemma within her school system), whether she should continue in public school education and be miserable or just leave the system altogether.
