2 + 2 = 5. if you have very high values of 2.
Our early estimated were overstated.
“2 + 2 = 5. if you have very high values of 2.”
That’s been one of my fave jokes for years.
And liberals will believe it each and every time.
Because they are liberals.

Wouldn’t it be more politically correct to treat all numbers as equals?
The big problem here is to fail to understand the difference between pupils and students. Children, generally speaking, are pupils, individuals requiring great guidance in the direction of their learning, students are those venturing into the realm of self reasoning who gradually begin to control the direction and purpose of their studies. THis grouping and communal learning seen int his article are very progressive, something that was common in China at one time. Most grade school students are not ready for the searching discover thing so many public school teachers push. If yo want to see a great text on how to bring a child properly into the realm of rationality refer to Sister Miriam Joseph’s “THe Trivium.”
Every year I take the young girl I home school to the local science fair. There is always someone pushing the climate change agenda. My pupil always asks these climate changers what percentage of the environment is carbon dioxide. Most cannot answer though they will state the increase. If they can answer, she asks what the other percentages of the major gases are, usually to their frustration.
My other favorite was when she was 7 and she encountered someone at the fair working very intensely on a chalk drawing on the pavement. She asked him what he was doing. He answered shortly, not wanting to be bothered, “I’m tracking the movement of the sun.” The young girl ponders this for a moment and replies with an incredulous, “THe sun doesn’t move.” The man stops drawing and without looking up answers in an annoyed though somewhat submissive tone, “I’m plotting the movement of the earth.”
