“An earthquake off the coast of the Touhoku region caused the tsunami that hit Fukushima. Also, it is mentioned in the article that most of Japan’s toilet paper factories are in earthquake-prone regions.”

I know that it was an earthquake that triggered the the Fukushima tsunami disaster. What I was referring to is their motives for making this announcement. The latest news coming out about Fukushima is very bad. They are using earthquakes as the public reason for stocking up.

My aunt was a TP hoarder. When she died and we were sorting through her house we found a huge stash.. My family of four didn’t buy TP for nearly 8 months and we still had two large lawn leaf bags full that we donated to a local homeless shelter.

"I propose a limitation be put on how many sqares of toilet paper can be used in any one sitting.
Now, I don’t want to rob any law-abiding American of his or her God-given rights, but I think
we are an industrious enough people that we can make it work with only one square per restroom
visit, except of course, on those pesky occasions where 2 to 3 could be required."

Stashing some TP and bars of soap as a prep are probably two of the least expensive but most effective ways to minimize avoidable health problems during a disaster of any sort.

I don’t know about Japan, but I live a mile from a Sam’s Club, and they ALWAYS have a HUGE AMOUNT of toilet paper. So I’ll deal with stocking up after the event.

And so will everyone else, meaning there won’t be any stocking up.

“And so will everyone else, meaning there won’t be any stocking up.”

I was wondering if someone would catch that. If you saw how many years worth of toilet paper (and paper towels, and plastic bags, and just about every other non-perishable) that I have, you’d see that I was having some fun here.

I actually did estimate that Sam’s has something like 1 roll of toilet paper in stock for every 10 memberships...so yea, it would take much to clean them out.

He who controls the toilet paper, controlled the attitudes of a nation.
