It was a long read to finally get to this, "People walk into the store, they don't see as much as they want so they take everything they can get. The next guy who comes in can't get anything, so he panics."

Still waiting for his explaination why the first guy didn't see as much as he wanted.

“Still waiting for his explaination why the first guy didn’t see as much as he wanted.”

Because the guy before him bought up all of it, and the resupply chain is not tuned for larger amounts.

Supply and demand. That’s it. Demand exceeds supply, and supply will not be increased further unless it can be planned for suitable amatorization (sp?).

Because they guy over in the check-out counter right now panicked when he couldn't buy 10 bricks and his wife made him settle for 5, leaving only 2 on the shelf.

Because he was panicked about the previous store not having any. I used to go round and round with Target on this, they used to be the only source in town for the cat litter we use, but they’d never stock much, so when I found it I bought it all. Eventually (possibly inspired by my e-mails, or maybe they just figured it out on their own) they started actually having more on the shelves than I could buy, and always had it in stock, so I stopped taking it all. But when people are convinced there’s a shortage they tend to get it all, just to make sure they don’t run out.
