I think there's some confusion here. NBC, not CNN, edited the video as you say. That was indeed bogus.

CNN, apparently, repeatedly played a claim that George used a "racial slur" when he (supposedly) said, somewhat mumbling under his breath, "F*****n coons."

Leaving aside the fairly obvious point that this would be an extremely obscure and uncommon slur, the general consensus eventually became that what he had really said was, "F*****g cold."
