Authorities said the incident began at about 8 a.m. when Sellars’ mother called authorities from a nearby Circle K gas station at State Road 70 and 33rd Street East.
The mother told deputies that her son had hit her twice with a phone book and had choked her. Another son, Casey Whitaker, who arrived on scene after the shooting, told the Herald-Tribune that his mother had several neck surgeries in the past.
The mother told deputies while Sellars was hitting her, she was not able to leave the house where they lived with Sellars’ adult sister. At one point the mother was able to call 911 from the house, but Sellars allegedly grabbed the phone from her and went into a back bedroom.
When he went to the back of the house, Sellars’ mother was able to escape and take a pickup to the gas station.
The mother filled out an affidavit, and deputies went to the house to arrest Sellars on charges of battery and false imprisonment at about 9:30 a.m.

I have a circa 1640 Damascus sword that has a 38 inch curved narrow blade that my dad brought back from Syria in 1963. Long ago when I was a young married with wife and two babies in St Petersburg, my wife woke me with “shhh” and pointed at the window beside the bed. Someone was prizing up the louvers. I quietly got up, got the sword and went out the other side of the house in my boxers with my VN war hat on my head and open jungle boots on my feet. I got behind the Teen who had pulled one of the slats free and waggled my hand where he saw it from the corner of his eye. He whirled about, saw an apparition with an Arabian sword upraised and got outa dodge faster than I can remember ever seeing anyone move before that, or since. He left a large screwdriver on the ground by the window.

I saw some show on TV a few months ago that explained that Indiana Jones scene.
Harrison Ford was supposed to engage in a sword fight with the other guy. Ford was having a bad time with diarrhea that day and needed to get off of the set, so he ad libbed and pulled his gun and shot the guy. ....The Director liked the shot so much that he kept it in the movie.

Sellars aunt says, “He was beautiful person inside and out. He was never given a real chance. Seemed like every time he takes a few steps somebody slams a door in his face.” She adds, “If anything he could have used some help.”
Sheriff Steube says Sellars’ criminal record speaks for itself. He’s been arrested 17 times by Manatee County deputies with charges including battery, robbery and an assault on a law enforcement officer.
