Money PJ, pure and simple.
The real reason the world goes ‘round is international trade now, and until too many people die that they can’t cover it up, it will be business as usual everywhere else.
Also interesting to note that the strain is different than the other outbreaks. It’s as if someone is testing different strains and using the WHO as their grad assistants to track the results.
I think many people have no understanding of how “messy” this disease is. It is difficult to care for someone and NOT be exposed.
The amount of liquids splashing out of these bodies was so horrible during one breakout, they just sealed the room instead of trying to clean it up.
I remember a friend, who is a big ice skating fan, telling me about some skater who got sick, or injured while in Russia. The person’s friends had to bring sheets and towels and even bandages, iirc. I can’t remember if this was before or after the fall of the USSR, but that might not make much difference.
YES....had an acquaintance who got sick and had to have surgery ( I think) in Russia.....NOT good...this was probably about 15-20 years ago.
A link to this thread has been posted on the Ebola Surveillance Thread
The article says that they didn't know it was Ebola at the time.

Thanks for the ping!
Bring Out Your Dead
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
Youre Welcome, Alamo-Girl!
But do they really have the training? I have no actual knowledge of the situation, but I just wonder what sort of training nurses in these primitive countries have.
And I am truly baffled by the references that I have seen to death rituals that involve touching the bodies. Guess I’ll have to ask DuckDuck for info.
Okay, I give up after spending half an hour on DuckDuckGo searching “death rituals in Democratic Republic of Congo”. I found no helpful information.
