The American public is frustrated with Congress. There is a constant stream of bickering between the two parties and two chambers, while the country falls deeper into debt to the tune of $1.3 billion per day. Congressional approval ratings are an abysmal 13 percent.
To top it all off, Congress is in the middle of a five-week recess.
Followed by their return on September 8, where they are only expected to be in session for 15 days before they adjourn and head home to try and get re-elected.
With such little action from our lawmakers and so much of their time spent elsewhere, there is no better opportunity than now to look into congressional compensation and the many financial perks that go along with being a member of Congress.

Have you ever noticed that when Republican politicians are jamming up the works, the Republicans are to blame.
But when the Democrats are the ones blocking things, then it's "congress's" fault"?
I disagree. Congress is not underworked. To the contrary, asking congress to do anything severely taxes their limited abilities. They are the weak links in our society. Its like asking little boys to do the jobs of men.
I would be happy if the Republicans would “jam up the works” now and then. Not sure they’re up to it, but nice to contemplate nonetheless. At least they would be doing SOMETHING. :)
They shouldn’t be in DC more than about 3 months per year but on call in case of emergencies. (like presidents decreeing unconstitutional laws)
Install a time clock on the floor of congress and pay them minimum wage....
I agree. As you may know, long ago the states got tired of legislative shenanigans and corruption. This led to a movement to limited the length of legislative sessions. I don’t know exactly what the average length of sessions is in each state, but its relatively short (i.e., just a couple of months).
The three month session is a good idea as it limits the time and opportunity for legislative mischief and the trend towards excessive legislation and spending. I would also like to see term limits. I doubt the Founding Fathers ever intended for politics to become a career.
LOL! They would still be overpaid.
Mine is one of only about 4 states that still have a full time legislature......for now.
Being in session all the time means they’ve got to find things to legislate.
TERM LIMITS.
The is no reason for a Pelosi..
Interesting. I didn’t know there were any full time legislatures. It costs a lot to run these long sessions, say nothing of the costs to the taxpayers of unnecessary legislation and regulations. A double whammy, thats for sure.
LOL! Great montage. There’s something creepy about the way he obsesses over ice cream.
I would be happy if they were busy repealing federal laws and regulations. That could keep them busy for years.
Your headline is nearly the exact statement I frequently make....with the addition of one more word:....overpaid and underworked DRUNKS!
