Too many political pundits have lost sight of the dangers that face police officers each and every day.
At first, the story coming out of Ferguson, Missouri, was only one of a white police officer shooting an unarmed, black child who was minding his own business.
Then, the story shifted; it was a white officer shooting a black adult who was gigantic, but a gentle giant with a heart of gold.
The story began to erode as evidence surfaced. Michael Brown was a gigantic adult male who not only robbed a convenience store and assaulted the store owner earlier that day, but allegedly attacked the officer. Video footage emerged that showed Brown robbing the store and attacking the store owner who tried to stop him. As Ferguson burned and race-hustlers like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton shouted, the Ferguson police tried to offer their side and reported that Officer Darren Wilson had an eye injury from the encounter.
Still, the narrative had taken hold .
Even as people slowly came to terms with the fact that maybe Michael Brown wasnt the gentle giant he was portrayed as, many still wondered, Why shoot an unarmed man? Surely and unarmed man need not be dealt with so harshly.
The video below is of another encounter. It is video footage of a police officer being assaulted by a black male during a traffic stop. The man lands blow after blow and beats the police officer to a pulp- all while remaining unarmed.
The video is from 1997 and was taken in Panola County, Texas. The man was wanted on other charges and to avoid being apprehended, attacked the police officer in front of his young daughter.
What this demonstrates is not that Officer Darren Wilson was or was not right in shooting Michael Brown. What this demonstrates is that the task we ask of uniformed officers every day across America is a dangerous one that requires them to engage with people who, without warning, is liable to attack.
It is easy to armchair-quarterback the decisions made by officers, but too few remember to note the danger police officers face when encountering a suspect who does not want to be apprehended.
“It is easy to armchair-quarterback the decisions made by officers”
the criticism wasn’t armchair quarterbacking, it was a deliberate attempt to make this a racial issue.
At Ferguson the media and people gave the cops a raw deal but the cops still have too much military gear.
Take away the battle rifles and huge mags — bullet capacity is driving trigger decisions and too many cops are kooks with SEAL Team Six fantasies.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
The old saying is worth repeating: When you are holding a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
But, the officer survived.
So I guess it wasn’t a deadly encounter.
VIDEO: Police Officer Beaten to a Pulp by UNARMED Man
This could have and should have been the headline regarding ferguson.
But it wasn’t. Shame on the MSM.
Reminds me of a murder here in Arkansas not long ago.
A black man broke into a white woman’s apartment, raped her then beat her to death with his fists. He beat her so violently part of her jaw was found up in her cranium.
He was judged as too mentally impaired for execution and was sentenced to life in prison.
Hands and Feet are deadly weapons.
Just about anything can be a deadly weapon if used in the “correct” eay.
Agree .... Well said.
